     The Wandering Earth

First published in Science Fiction World, July 2000. I’ve never seen the night, nor seen a star; I’ve seen neither spring, nor fall, nor winter. I was born at the end of the Reining Age, just as the Earth’s rotation was coming to a final halt. The Sun is about to unleash a helium flash, threatening to swallow all terrestrial planets in the solar system. On Earth, the Unity Government has erected Earth Engines. With them it plans to propel our planet out of the solar system, setting it on a journey into outer space in search of a new sun. The Earth begins its centuries-long, wandering travels through outer space. Just as we began our journey, my grandfather passed away, his burnt body ravaged by infection. In his final moments, he repeated over and over, “Oh, Earth, my wandering Earth...” China Galaxy Science Fiction Award of Year 2000.

     Lockdown

Furnace Penitentiary: the world’s most secure prison for young offenders, buried a mile beneath the earth’s surface. Convicted of a murder he didn’t commit, sentenced to life without parole, “new fish” Alex Sawyer knows he has two choices: find a way out, or resign himself to a death behind bars, in the darkness at the bottom of the world. Except in Furnace, death is the least of his worries. Soon Alex discovers that the prison is a place of pure evil, where inhuman creatures in gas masks stalk the corridors at night, where giants in black suits drag screaming inmates into the shadows, where deformed beasts can be heard howling from the blood-drenched tunnels below. And behind everything is the mysterious, all-powerful warden, a man as cruel and dangerous as the devil himself, whose unthinkable acts have consequences that stretch far beyond the walls of the prison. Together with a bunch of inmates—some innocent kids who have been framed, others cold-blooded killers—Alex plans an escape. But as he starts to uncover the truth about Furnace’s deeper, darker purpose, Alex’s actions grow ever more dangerous, and he must risk everything to expose this nightmare that’s hidden from the eyes of the world.

    Lying

     Lying

As it was in Anna Karenina, Madame Bovary, and Othello, so it is in life. Most forms of private vice and public evil are kindled and sustained by lies. Acts of adultery and other personal betrayals, financial fraud, government corruption—even murder and genocide—generally require an additional moral defect: a willingness to lie.

    Nova Express

      William S. Burroughs
     Nova Express

The Soft Machine introduced us to the conditions of a universe where endemic lusts of the mind and body pray upon men, hook them, and turn them into beasts. Nova Express takes William S. Burroughs’s nightmarish futuristic tale one step further. The diabolical Nova Criminals—Sammy The Butcher, Green Tony, Iron Claws, The Brown Artist, Jacky Blue Note, Izzy The Push, to name only a few—have gained control and plan on wreaking untold destruction. It’s up to Inspector Lee of the Nova Police to attack and dismantle the word and imagery machine of these “control addicts” before it’s too late. This surrealist novel is part sci-fi, part Swiftian parody, and always pure Burroughs.

    Snapshot

      Brandon Sanderson
     Snapshot

If you could re-create a day, what dark secrets would you uncover? From New York Times #1 bestselling author Brandon Sanderson comes a detective thriller in a police beat like no other. Anthony Davis and his partner Chaz are the only real people in a city of 20 million, sent there by court order to find out what happened in the real world 10 days ago so that hidden evidence can be brought to light and located in the real city today. Within the re-created Snapshot of May 1st, Davis and Chaz are the ultimate authorities. Flashing their badges will get them past any obstruction and overrule any civil right of the dupes around them. But the crimes the detectives are sent to investigate seem like drudgery—until they stumble upon the grisly results of a mass killing that the precinct headquarters orders them not to investigate. That’s one order they have to refuse. The hunt is on. And though the dupes in the replica city have no future once the Snapshot is turned off, that doesn’t mean that both Davis and Chaz will walk out of it alive tonight. Film rights have now been optioned by MGM, with Broken Road Productions and Entertainment 360 producing. **Review brilliantly written, light and funny when required and serious at the appropriate moments....And there are so many secrets left to explore so much more to find out about Legion and his aspects that I'm hopeful of another book, as frustratingly, but in a good way, it left me wanting more. * Escapes of a Bookworm * If you haven't checked out this series yet, you should. It's a super fun blend of sci-fi/fantasy and modern thriller, and is totally different from anything else Sanderson has written - you know, apart from the fact that it's also fairly mindblowingly awesome. ;) So whether or not you've read his stuff before, you should give this a try. * Therewerebooksinvolved.com * with unanswered questions lingering and Stephen's mind slowly reaching saturation point, there's potential for the series to develop into greater character study and more complex mysteries. * Starburst Magazine * We get some brilliantly funny scenes between Stephen and his personae, not to mention some brilliantly clever scenes that really shape our view of Stephen's world...Legion: Skin Deep is an absolutely fantastic read, * Fantasy Book Review * The decidedly though-provoking premise, that the human body and its cells can be used as receptacles to store information...makes for a very interesting read * Pat's Fantasy Hotlist * About the Author Brandon Sanderson is the author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Steelheart and Firefight, the first two books in the Reckoners series, and of the internationally bestselling books in the Stormlight Archive and the Mistborn series, and he was chosen to complete Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series. His books have been published in more than twenty-five languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide. Calamity is the third book in the Reckoners series. Brandon lives and writes in Utah.
