Srebrenica Massacre: a Dutch fairy story, Page 2

W H Oxley

No doubt, boys and girls, you have been brought up to distrust wolves, but this is unfair. Wolves have always suffered from a bad press: the tabloids are always picking on them, and they inevitably get the blame if someone’s granny goes missing. But this is unjust. Wolves are honourable: if they give their word, they keep it – and on this occasion, they kept it…

True to his word, the very next day Mladic sent Bo Peep three truckloads of canned goat-meat, and she sent the following despatch to her superiors in Flatland:

“All procedures have been complied with. All goats are present, correct and odourless.”

And so the killer lambs returned to Flatland to a hero’s welcome, a nice hot sheep-dip, sandwich fillings, cigarette papers and, most important of all, soft tissue toilet paper. All the canned Billy goats were reunited with their wives and mothers, who grumbled about their menfolk not being the same since that there processing

But then goats do have a reputation for grumpiness.

It is all there in the official Dutch Army report: right down to the last sheet of soft tissue toilet paper.
