My Love Paul, Page 2

Stephanie Moran
different, in fact she often wore Paul’s clothes more often then her own. Amy tried even harder to get in contact with her, she called numerous times a day, left hundreds of messages, even showed up to her house unannounced. But the result was always the same. Lexus wanted nothing to do with her, she wouldn’t return her calls or answer the door when she would stop in. It isn’t too out of the ordinary for women to wear their deceased husbands clothes, so most people overlooked it. However when she got her haircut and died to an auburn brown color that matched Paul’s almost exactly, people began to become concerned. Especially Amy, she became very worried not only about Lexus, but about Isabelle as well. A young girl who has just lost her father and now is stuck with a mother who wont let her go out other then to school and is dressing similar to her husband as well as appearance wise beginning to look a lot like him. Amy called child protective services to see if legally there was anything she could do to have Isabelle come live with her until Lexus got the help that she needs.

Finally one day almost a year after Paul had been murdered Amy ran into Lexus at the grocery store. She noticed her car when she pulled into the parking lot and waited outside until she came out. She waited for her to come out and get Isabelle buckled in the car before she confronted her.

“You know you can’t avoid me forever, eventually you will have to tell me what is going on with you.” She began, “you know it’s not healthy for Isabelle to see you like this, I’m sure it’s hard enough for her to loose her father. These changes you’ve made for yourself can’t be easy for her to watch.”

“You have no idea what I’m going through” she replied “and never, I repeat never come to me and tell me what is right for my daughter.” She stormed off into her car slamming the door and speeding off. Amy just stood in shock of what just happened for a minute before deciding its time she gets legal help. She couldn’t allow this to happen to her niece, let alone her sister. She went to the police station and began inquiring more about how to get custody of her niece and get her sister committed. When she had spoke with child protective services they had told her she would have to file a report with the police who if they feel it’s necessary would go to Lexus and evaluate weather they feel as though they need to have a judge blue paper her. To blue paper someone is when a judge feels they are not capable of deciding when they need help so they make them go to a facility to get treatment until the doctors feel they are suitable to leave.

Shortly after speaking with the police the sheriff was at Amy’s door. She quickly became hysterical when she saw him. Convinced they were there because they found out the truth. She answered the door not with a kind greeting but with a stiff “so I assume you’re here to take me to prison?”

Completely derailed the sheriff answered “I am here to take you Ma’am but not to prison” he began questioning “do you feel you’ve done something that makes you deserve jail time?”

“Then where are you taking me?” she quickly replied avoiding his question. Amy pulled up in front of the house interrupting before the sheriff had a chance to explain.

“What is she doing here?” Lexus now becoming demented and pacing back and forth on the steps muttering to herself.

“Lexus, she is here to take Isabelle. She will be staying with her until you are well enough to care for her again” he calmly replied. Lexus had no response.

Months passed and Amy legally adopted Isabelle. While in the mental institute they learned all about the afternoon Lexus (or rather Paul, she will no longer respond to anything other then Paul) killed the real Paul. However after numerous psych evaluations the court feels she is mentally unfit and will remain in mental facilities until a day when she is well enough to stand trial.

After recent evaluations by many different doctors it is said Lexus has transformed herself into Paul for one of two possible reasons. She is ether feeling extreme guilt for what she had done. Or after years of abuse, both mentally and physically the impact both good and bad Paul had on Lexus is far to strong for she even now can’t and won’t live a life without him.

Isabelle undergoes therapy twice a week, but at this time she only knows her father has passed away and her mom is sick so she can’t see her. Not a day goes by that Amy doesn’t think about and dread the day she is going to have to tell her the truth. How do you ever explain to anyone that his or her father didn’t just pass away, in fact he was murdered by her mother? Who she shouldn’t completely blame for she was not only being constantly abused everyday but also he was cheating on her with what use to be her best friend. And if that isn’t hard enough to explain, she also has to find a way to explain that the reason her mother is in the hospital is because she went crazy and transformed herself into the very person she murdered. And chances are she will never get better, she will never return to the person she once was. But if for some reason someday she has a miraculous recovery she will go to prison where she will most likely be executed for in the state of Alabama it is the legal way of dealing with these kinds of cases.
