  THE POET

When I’m Down The Poet Comes

  To Lift My Spirits Higher.

  The Poet’s Words Inspiring

And Sets My Soul On Fire.

Yet Sometimes It Is Not Enough

To Keep Me Out Of Trouble

The Poet’s Words Can Make Me Cry

  Or Make My Sadness Double.

“You Worry To Much” The Poet Says

  “About What Will Happen Next

  Your Pessimism Clouds Your Thoughts

  And Keeps Your Mind Perplexed”.

  The Darkness Covers Everything

There Is No Joy Or Glee.

  Without The Poet’s Beacon

It Might Be The End Of Me.

Words Come Faster Than I Can Write

When The Poet Speaks To Me.

Words That Lift The Veil Of Sadness

  Words That Help Me See.

So Many Times The Poet Came

  So Many Times We Spoke.

Watching Over Me As I Slept

  And There When I Awoke.

Through The Good Days And The Bad

  The Poet’s always Here.

To Comfort Me And Calm My Thoughts

When I Am Full Of Fear.

I wonder How The Poet Knows

  Just When To Come Around.

To Give The Words I Need The Most

When My Spirit’s On The Ground.

The Poet Helps Me Make It Through

  And Doesn’t Charge A Dime.

The Poet Gives Such Beautiful Words

  And Makes The Phrases Rhyme.

  Like An Angel From Above

  That’s Protecting Me From Harm.

When I Feel That I Will Fall

  The Poet Grabs My Arm.

  Everyday I’m Thankful

  That The Poet Is Around.

To Bring Me Up The Stairs Of Life

To Help Me When I’m Down.

“I’m Here To Guide You When You’re Lost

To Give You Peace And Rest

I’m The Gift You Got From God

I’m You When You’re At Your Best”.

  The Stranger

A forgotten child stands lonely in the street

Wanting for shelter, and something to eat

Violence and danger are his constant companions

The city is cold, like desolate canyons

People pass by like he is not even there

This forgotten child, full of despair

Street Smarts alone won't get him employed

He needs an education to fill-in the void

For the sake of the child, a stranger appears

To enlighten his mind and calm his fears

The lamp of knowledge shines upon the young man

The cup of kindness he receives in his hand

Tears fill the eyes of this child in need

As he recognizes the face of this good deed

Who would do such a thing for this child of the streets

Who would do this thing for everyone he meets

It's not strange at all that he walks among us

He's not a stranger at all

  His name is Jesus

  The Burden

The aches, the pains, the medicines,

  How did it all begin?

My body's wearing way too fast.

My mind will not give in.

A new bruise, a new pain, or scar

It drills me to the core.

My health is being washed away,

  Like rocks upon the shore.

  Everyday conditions worsen,

  Some visible outside.

I have to keep my spirits up

I will not run and hide!

  Some people cannot understand,

  Some people just don't care.

I'll survive as long as I can,

  A burden I must bear.

I know the pain will go away.

  Someday I will give up.

I'm too stubborn to go right now,

  Don't start passing the cup!

For those of you who may read this,

  Remember what I say.

We may all have pain and sorrows,

But live from day to day.

These words are true and full of thought,

  With words of kindness too.

Someday we'll meet at Heaven's gate,

  Until then, peace to you

  Grandma and Grandpa

I never knew my Grandma, but my Grandpa would tell me tales.

Of America, early nineteen-hundreds, and working on the rails.

He spoke of the Great Depression. He spoke of World War Two.

He spoke of right, and spoke of wrong, and the things that I should do.

He spoke of his one true love, how she died so long ago.

I wish I could have known Grandma before she had to go.

Though Grandma could not be there to shower me with love.

Grandpa showed enough for both while she waited up above.

Grandpa died when I was young, Grandma had gone before.

I think of them together again, in that place that has no war.

The tales he told of the "olden days" soar like a bird in flight.

Someday I'll tell stories too for my grandchildren's delight.

  When a Parent Passes

  When a parent passes on,

to wait for us in heaven.

  The emptiness within our hearts

  must always be forgiven.

For they did not go on their own,

  there was a higher power.

But they’ll be watching over us,

  each and every hour.

They’ll be there to pick us up,

when life has knocked us down.

Their bodies may have left the earth,

  but their spirit’s all around.

The memories we hold of them,

will help us ease the sorrow.

They’ll be there to guide our steps,

  and help us through tomorrow.

The day will come when we must go,

and leave our friends and loved ones.

  Our memories are passed along,

through our daughters and our sons.

  Mom and Dad

My Mom and Dad have gone away,

and left me here to stay.

I’m saddened at their passing on,

  and angry they went away.

But the anger is not with them though,

  the anger is with me.

I could have been a better son,

and as good a man as he.

And then I stop and think of them,

the words that they would say.

“Cheer up son, we are proud of you,

  on each and every day”.

Yes, Mom and Dad have gone away,

and left me here to stay.

They’ll wait for me on golden streets,

  to join them again someday.

  WHAT MAN IS THIS

  Some people call him worker

  as he toils everyday.

  Some people call him friendly

as he goes along his way.

  The Masons call him brother

and he makes many a sacrifice.

  The Shriners call him Noble

  crippled children call him nice.

  A child calls him Grandpa

as she sits upon his lap.

And he cuddles her and rocks her

as they both begin to nap.

  Some people call him “Curly”

though a shine’s upon his head.

  And someone calls him lover

at night when they’re in bed.

He has always been there for me

in the good times and the bad.

  He’s different things

  to different people,

And I’m Proud to call him DAD!!

  A Good Man Was He

Another good man has passed on to glory,

And left us here to tell his story.

A thoughtful, sweet, and gentle man,

No stranger to hard work, or craft of the hand.

Along with his wife, he raised a fine family,

It kept growing in size to include even me.

He gave his youngest daughter to be my wife,

He touched many people, but especially my life.

  A down-to-earth man, with down-to-earth goals,

A shining light, inspiration, and a kind blessed soul.

A pillar of strength, when we were feeling weak,

Common sense and knowledge, whose wisdom we would seek.

We mourn his passing with many tears and great sorrow,

He would want us to remember there is always tomorrow.

He was courageous, loving, and his passing makes us sad,

You can call him Clovis, but I will call him Dad.

  My Pet “Blue”

You’ll sing no more; your song is done.

You lost your life in the afternoon sun.

I wanted to give you room to fly, to play with you up close.

If I knew how the afternoon would end, you would not have left the house.

You gave me over six years of joy.

With the funny things you did; my “Blue Boy”.

Some might say you were “just a bird”

But, you were more than that I give you my word.

A sudden and tragic end to a pet that was good.

If I could turn back the clock, I surely would.

Another pet took your life away.

Wait for me in Heaven, I’ll see you someday

I’ll miss you “Blue”, and I’m sorry you had to die.

Your sudden death made me cry.

  MY BUCKET LIST

There are many things I want to do,

  before my family grieves.

I want to see the Northern Lights,

and the changing of the leaves.

I want to go to the Caribbean,

and swim in the warm, clear waters.

I want to play in snow again,

along with my son and daughters.

  Sky-diving might be fun,

  or even going into space.

Perhaps a cruise on a very big ship,

and getting sea-spray on my face.

I would like to cut a hit record,

and tour while it climbed the chart.

I would like to pet a white tiger,

and listen to the beat of its heart.

I want to drive a Plymouth Prowler,

but it seems I’m just too tall.

I would like to go to China,

and walk along its Great Wall.

I would like to fly a helicopter,

and have wanted to all my life

Most of all to see each day,

and see it with my wife.

Time is limited on this earth,

my time here is not done.

I may not do everything on this list,

but I’m sure I’ll do at least one.

  MY LOVE FOR YOU

Scenic Mountains And Bright Pretty Flowers,

I’m Missing You As I’m Counting The Hours.

‘Til I’m Home Again With A Toast Of Wine,

Feeling Your Gentle Body Close To Mine.

Your Blue Eyes, Your Red Lips, Your Loving Smiles,

The Thoughts Of These Things Can Just Melt The Miles.

To Have And To Hold I Said Years Ago,

Why They Sent Me Here I’ll Never Know.

Your Soft Golden Hair, Your Warm Tender Skin,

I Long For The Day When I’m Home Again.

To Be With You Now And Taste Your Sweet Kiss,

The Months Will Go By As I Think Of This.

Love Bubbles Over At The Though Of You,

I Know It’s Hard And You’re Missing Me Too.

But It Won’t Be Long Before We Can Touch,

You’re So Far Away; I Miss You So Much.

I Wish I Could Be There To Hold You Tight,

My Heart Aches For You When I Wake At Night.

The Great Sacrifice That You’ve Made For Me,

Makes Me So Proud As I Serve Our Country.

We’ve Shared Our Lives For Over Sixteen Years,

You’ve Been My Companion And Calmed My Fears.

You’ve Kept Me Warm When The Nights Were Cold,

My Love Is Yours; Together We’ll Grow Old.

As I Spend This Time In A Far-off Land,

I’m Always Dreaming Of Us Hand-In-Hand.

Though Apart From You Now And In A Strange Place,

I Think Of Your Touch And Your Pretty Face.

Together Again When I’ll Hold You Near,

Time Will Pass Quickly; It’s Only A Year.

While I’m Away, I Send All My Love,

Our Souls Are Bonded By God Above.

My Days Are Your Nights, And Your Nights My Days,

You’ve Shown Me Your Love In So Many Ways.

You’re The Best Thing That’s Come Into My Life,

I Love You Dearly And Glad You’re My Wife.

I Love You More Than Words Can Ever Say,

I Love You More Each And Every Day.

My Love For You Grows And Will Never Fade,

I Cherish Your Love, And The Home we’ve Made.

  I Wish I Knew

I wish I knew what I could do

  When trouble comes my way.

I wish I knew what I could do

And knew just what to say.

I wish I knew what I could do

  When fear clouds my mind.

I wish I knew what I could do

To have people treat me kind.

I wish I knew what I could do

To ease this pain I feel.

I wish I knew what I could do

  None of this seems real.

I wish I knew what I could do

  My mind is getting worn.

I wish I knew what I could do

  It’s time to be reborn.

I wish I knew what I could do

  To get my desires heard.

I wish I knew what I could do

  What’s the “Magic Word”?

  I wish I knew.

  ONE OF THESE DAYS

One of these days; the waiting is hard to do.

A plane will leave here and bring me back to you.

One of these days when I’m holding you near,

I can whisper my feelings of love in your ear.

One of these days and I’ll be glad,

But being away from you makes me sad.

One of these days the Air Force will see,

Just how sad a separation can be.

One of these days we’ll kiss and touch,

But I’m lonely now and miss you so much.

One of these days I’ll hear the plane engine roar,

I’ll be a happy man as I walk through our door.

One of these days and I hope it’s soon,

We’ll be together and we can spoon.

One of these days I’ll be home again,

I’ll taste your kisses and touch your skin.

One of these days when I finally get home,

I can tell you my feelings without writing a poem.

One of these days about seven months from now,

We’ll have made it through and wonder how.

One of these days when that plane leaves the ground,

It will make me rejoice knowing I’m homeward bound.
