Ban saw Fan caught in the net. He bit the net with his sharp teeth and slowly made a big hole in it.

“Thank you, little mouse,” said king Fan. “You are so small, but you saved my life.”

“It was my turn to help you, big Fan,” said Ban.

“We will be friends always,” said Fan.

And they became friends till the end.

  The Untruthful Tortoise

Story and Illustrations by Daniel Olusegun AKINDELE - 10 years

Once a time, there lived two friends, Mr. Tortoise and Mr. Alade.

Mr. Tortoise was untruthful. He was always telling lies to deceive people.

However, his friend, Mr. Alade was not like that. Mr. Alade was honest and people liked him.

Many times, Mr. Alade had told Mr. Tortoise to stop telling lies, and to stop deceiving people. Mr. Tortoise would not change.

One day, Mr. Tortoise went to Mr. Alade, who was a popular potter. He knew his friend always made beautiful pots. Mr. Tortoise told his friend to give him one of the pots.

He said he would make the pot to speak within seven days. Mr. Alade was reluctant. He did not to release the pot because he knew Mr. Tortoise was a liar. He knew he would use the pot to trick people again.

After much pressure, he gave Mr. Tortoise the pot. Mr. Tortoise took the pot home.

He erected a cage for the pot and hid his youngest child in one of the cages. Mr. Tortoise told his child to talk whenever he asks him to. Then he informed everybody that he has gotten a drum that can talk.

Many people came to see the talking pot of Mr. Tortoise. Each time Mr. Tortoise talks to the pot, his child in the pot replies him. People were shocked to see the pot speaking. They do not know that Mr. Tortoise has put his child in the pot.

The news of Mr. Tortoise’s speaking pot spread to the king of the town. The king then asked Mr. Tortoise to come and show him how the pot speaks. Everybody has gathered, and Mr. Tortoise asked the pot to speak. The pot started speaking.

Mr. Alade was not deceived. He knew the voice of Mr. Tortoise’s last child. So, he asked Mr. Tortoise to produce all his children. They could not find his youngest child.

At last, they forced the pot open. They found Mr. Tortoise’s child in the pot. They now realized that Mr. Tortoise has been deceiving them.

The King now issued a command; that Mr. Tortoises should leave the town for causing confusion in the village. That was how Mr. Tortoise lost his house, and all other properties.

It is not good to be a deceiver.

  The Boy Without A Nose

Story and Illustrations by Damope OLUKOYEDE - 17 years

Dedicated to all my friends, and also to 3niti Multimedia Academy

In the family of Rotini’s, there lived a young boy named Isaac. He was not brilliant, but was very handsome. People did not want to associate with him, because he was dull, and was not brilliant.

They made fun of him, because he was not brilliant and could not speak good English fluently

He decided to meet an herbalist (a magician) who told him to abide by the rules he would give him, or else, he will face the consequences alone.

The herbalist gave the boy an herb to apply in the morning before going to school, and that when he arrives from school, before he sleeps, he should clear off his face.

He did as he was told. However, he forgot that the herbalist told him to wash his face before he sleeps.

The first day, after receiving the herb, people started noticing that Isaac was doing very well at school.

One month later, Isaac woke up from bed, and noticed that his nose had started to shrink. Immediately, he went out from the house secretly, to meet the herbalist.

When he got there, the herbalist started laughing while reciting incantations. He told him that he could do nothing about him, that he will remain like that for life due to disobedience.

People started making gest of him, and called him names because of his face.

His parents, tried all means of turning him back to normal but they could not this was as a result to disobedience.

  If Not For My Mother

Story by Moyosore OLUKOYEDE - 11 years

There was once a boy named Dan. He was so naughty. He kept bad friends and was always fighting.

One day Dan ran home shouting, “They are coming, they are coming!” His sister, Josephine, who was reading a book stood and shouted, "Who? What happened? What is going on?"

Dan's mum, rushed out, saying, "What is it? What? Oh Dan! You have gone out fighting AGAIN.

How many times have I warned you? Now kneel down, raise up your hand and shut your eyes "

After sometime, Dan's mum called him and said, "I want the best of you and I won't stop telling you the truth. Your behavior is bad and getting worse. Now, go and take off your uniform, have a bath and come, and eat."

Despite all the warnings Dan's mum gave him, He remained adamant. One day he sneaked out of the house to attend a friend's party. At the party where everyone was enjoying themselves, Dan went to interrupt people who were dancing by coming in between them.

The next morning, David's dad came with his son and a police officer to report Dan to his parents for what he had done to David. Dan was arrested. His mother tried her best to help him. He promised to change and the police in charge said they should let him go.

From that time, Dan faced his studies, and asked for forgiveness from everyone he wronged.

I hope this has taught us all a lesson.

Be careful of the friends you choose.

  The Life Of Ta'Lore

Story by Ayomide OLUKOYEDE - 13 years

Lore as she was fondly called, lived down the hill with her granny. It was a very lonely place as people hardly passed there. They lived in a cottage near a small lake. The only friend she had was her aging granny, a stout and fairly plumb woman with a hole separating her front teeth. Ta'lore was a beauty to behold. Her light blue eyes had the color of a calm sea. Her pink lips seemed to go perfectly with her light skin color. Her blonde curly hair lay perfectly on her back.

Every morning, she would sit on her wooden bed and stare out into the woods singing a song she was taught on her last day of school. "It's a song your mother loved to sing." Granny said as she entered Lore's room. Lore just stared back at her and looked down at the wooden floor and back to fresh cold air. "It is a pity ........... It is a pity she..... She ran away." She said swallowing her words. Granny sat close to her and held her hand. " I am very sure she still has you in her heart." Lore looked into her eyes and said "One day, we shall be together again" gran
ny hugged her tightly and patted her on the back. Lore rose up and went out of the room to the table where her food was served. She had hardly seen children of her age since she moved into her granny's house. The last time she talked to a child her age or younger was two years ago when she was leaving her father's house. There was no television set in her old granny's house, it was an old radio cassette that hardly even worked. Everything in that house made her feel like she was in the 1880's. No animals, only the birds who perched on the ground when they felt like. In the night, they sat down together and granny would tell her different things about the past. " your grand pa, my husband was a very kind man, full of wisdom, you seem to take after him." Granny said slowly like there was something in her throat. Lore scooped her porridge and looked up "What happened to him?" She asked rather curious. Granny only shook her head as tears began streaming down her wrinkled face. There was a long moment of silence then she finally spoke " He had a heart attack when he heard Hectar had come to take his land." Lore only looked at her granny's teary face and asked. " Why would uncle Hectar do such a thing?" Granny answered " He owed him a large amount of money which he used to buy a house. He was meant to take me along with him but your uncle, Bronze told me to run away and that was how I got here. Hectar was a very cruel man." Lore sat up straight as granny taught her to and moved closer to her and said "Don't worry granny, you are safe here." . Granny whispered to her" No! I'm not safe in any place. None of your father's family want me alive. That's why I moved so far away." Lore shook her head fast" No, I do not have a father. That man made a mistake marrying my mum. He is a DEVIL" she said almost shouting. " Enough for tonight. You should get some rest. I am too weary to speak more about anything." Lore went to bed puzzled about what grandma said. If they did not like her mother's family, then probably she is not safe to. What if her mother had died? Who would she stay with when granny dies? How was she going to look for her mother? What if she is also being hunted? These questions ran through her mind as she lay on her bed. She knew something had to be done but how?

  Amazino: The Conqueror

Story by Kexty JAMES - 17 years

  AMAZINO

In the faraway land of Zarmda, there were five kingdoms: Fermugio, Zarmula, Mailure, Actum, and Sherken.

Each governed by a king and a queen. The Kingdom of Zarmula was also governed by a king and a queen. The queen, fortunately, was a female warrior, and this was unusual. She was a highly skilled trained warrior who went to war to fight battles, and also engaged in deadly adventurous missions with her men, and undoubtedly return victorious. This indeed won the respect and admiration of the people, and for this she was the most famous queen in all the lands. Everyone knew of her, and also hosted bouquets, celebration, ball parties in her honour celebrating her bravery, honesty, integrity, and fearlessness in battle.

Queen Ginika was so good and highly skilled that she was even the captain of the army in her own kingdom, and side by side she ruled with her trustworthy, honest husband, King Madoro.

After a few years, the queen, Ginika, “took in”, and the Kingdoms celebrated. The seer came and blessed the child after delivery. Also, he saw the child’s future, that it will be quite full of pains, setbacks, and misery. He also saw the tragedy that was about to take place. It was indeed very sad, but he couldn’t bring himself to telling the king and queen after seeing them so overjoyed and happy. So he kept mum about the whole thing. The kingdom celebrated and feasted the whole week. Everything seemed so perfect until the final hour came.

Everyone had gone to sleep, and then a shadow was seen leaving the room quietly. Unconsciously, the queen was woken up by the cry of the baby and then she saw the stranger take one last look at her; and just then, she saw the symbol of a raven on the stranger’s cape before disappearing.

The queen screamed so loudly that all the maids and guards came in. The king jumped from the bed and looked around only for him to see the queen crying near the baby’s cot. The king was lost until she muttered; “They took her away”. At the instance, the king summoned all his soldiers and then they took off looking for the baby.

They didn’t return for three days due to how enormous Zarmula was. On the fourth day, in the morning, the king’s arrival was announced and by that time, Queen Ginika was sitting by the window. At the sight of them, she rushed out with high hopes ready to receive her long lost child only for her to go outside and notice that there was no baby with them. There was no need thinking otherwise, their sad faces and bowed heads said it all, they had lost their daughter. The loss affected Ginika, and the kingdom mourned for two months until everyone resumed back to their normal lives. The kingdoms visited and consoled Ginika who then kindly after years turned back to her strong and cheerful self again.

Every day, she laid by the cot crying and remembering the precious moments she had spent with her baby even until the very last hour, then the image of the stranger would flash before her eyes. Even though the person was in the dark, she swore it was a woman and could barely see her face that night. The kingdom mourned for four(4) months until everyone went back to their normal duties. During this tragic event, the other kingdoms came to show their support, love, and encouragements, consoling Ginika, that she was going to find her child or give birth to another one. After much effort, Ginika gradually forgot and went back to her normal self.

Not long after, Ginika took in again. This was indeed pleasant news as once again, the kingdom celebrated, and Ginika was overwhelmed. The oracle then requested to see Izadoro, who then told him the importance of the child that was coming.

According to the oracle, the gods had chosen them to bring the child to the earth because of their pure heart and long suffering. The child indeed was going to be great, the solution of so many problems, and also the cause of so many deaths in the region. He was going to be the greatest, and was going to unite the true kingdoms and restore peace to the land. The boy was going to be born with a very large tattoo of half a lion he ad with a dagger in between; then an inscription from an unknown language on his back. With the predictions, the queen was not permitted to eat meat or drink wine during the months of her pregnancy. This, the oracle had instructed.

After months of waiting, the child finally came at night. It took long and strenuous hours for the baby to be born. The midwives thought Ginika wasn’t going to make it, but fortunately because of the unusual strength that Ginika had, she made it, and finally gave birth in peace. It was raining heavily that night. After some time, Izadoro , Ginika, and the newly born baby were together in a room, where they christened the baby AMAZINO, just as the oracle instructed.

GINIKA was very weak after the strenuous birth of the child but managed to share in the joy. She gave a gift to the newly born, a beautiful green silk blanket and Izadoro also gave his son the gift of a dagger like necklace.

Everyone in the kingdom rejoiced, but there joy was short lived immediately. A report reached the king that the kingdom was under attack by some strange bandits who came out of nowhere. Ginika and every one panicked but the king assured every one that everything was under control. After giving the queen a quick peck on the head, he took one last look at the baby and dashed out ready for battle. Before leaving, he assigned some guards at the door of the room to watch over the queen and the baby.

Izadoro fought furiously as the attackers were out numbering them. Meanwhile, the queen stayed in the room praying for her husband and the baby when suddenly, there were noises of struggling men outside the door and then there was silence. She quickly rose to her feet and armed herself with a sword, still feeling very weak, but ready to fight. There was silence everywhere, and then Ginika breathed a sign of relief thinking that everything was over. All of a sudden, some men broke down the door and trooped in.
