Dear Diary,
When Aunt Sheila gave you to me, I didn’t realize how important you would become. I’m sorry if that seems mean. I just never expected to be a Diary Person. Ya know? Anyway, I guess we are always changing.
That brings me to something super secret and private that I have literally not told a single person and I don’t even know if I can write down. It’s not a bad thing at all. It’s just new and kind of surprising. For me. Anyway.
So here goes. I feel like I finally have a crush. At least based on how my friends describe a crush. But it’s not on a boy. It’s actually on Mara. My neighbor.
How crazy is that? Not because she’s a girl—because it’s totally fine to like girls if you’re a girl or boys if you’re a boy. Whatever. But crazy because she’s my neighbor and my friend and it kind of happened out of nowhere.
Like I find myself thinking about her before I go to sleep, and wondering what she’s doing. And her hair is so pretty—it’s like half brown and half blond and it curls up on the bottom. I don’t think she even tries to get it that way. And she’s just so nice and she has the funniest laugh.
UGH. I do have a crush, right? OMG. I wish you could answer me.

It has been an exciting year for me. I’ve enjoyed being sixth-grade rep. I think we’ve grown a great deal in terms of bullying and understanding one another.
