These Setting Suns, Page 2

  *****

My father just bought me my puppy, Mason, and Ryan thought that it would be a good idea that we take Mason to our favorite hang out. We walked him down to the river and he fell in love with the pup. Ryan let him off the leash and Mason ran to the river and jumped in. I was scared because he was only a puppy. I didn’t think that he could swim yet, but he proved me wrong. He swam to the ducks and tried to chase them. Ryan and I laughed at him.

Then Ryan took his shirt, shorts, shoes, and socks off and jumped into the water. It looked refreshing compared to the hot temperature of July, but I was hesitant. I kept thinking that someone would stumble along our spot and see us. Then what would I do? It wouldn’t look good that a half naked boy and a half naked girl were swimming in the river, and I wouldn’t hear the end of it. “Come on, no one could see us” Ryan convinced me. I took my dress and shoes off and joined him and Mason in the water. Ryan started splashing me and then I splashed back. We had so much fun just playing around. Mason joined in on the fun, but then we saw something in the forest and froze. We both ran out of the water and quickly dressed just to find out that it was just a deer. We both laughed hysterically and decided that it was time to leave. Ryan got Mason back on his leash and we headed back to my house.
