thoughts into a machine, until I found my voice in spoken word.

  Pause…

  We’d talk for hours, even days about all subjects, disturbing or sweet; it didn’t matter. The silence seemed to leave my system then, but not to be replaced by the buzzing bee in my brain. I found my humanity, my salvation from a broken world in the soft spoken words of a single woman. I found my link to communication, her thoughts and feelings broadening my tiny world until I could almost believe that I saw a spark of light.

  I no longer need batteries.
