Bayne entered his dorm room pulling leaves from his hair. Chad sat at his desk, an everquill gliding across a piece of parchment.

“Morning Hairy Butt,” Chad said in a cheery voice.

Bayne plopped down on his bed. “Morning Mr. Invisible. What are you writing?”

“Just journaling. Meet any hot wolves last night?”

From time to time Bayne would come across others of his kind in the forest, which usually led to a skirmish for dominance. And that often led to a lurid tale the next morning. “No hot wolves. But I did meet a hot nymph.”

  Chad’s everquill stopped. “That’s gross.”

  Bayne’s brow furrowed. “Huh?”

“I know nymphs aren’t picky. But I’ve seen you change. You’re pretty damn ugly, not to mention hung like a…”

“I didn’t have sex with him!” Bayne protested.

“Oh. So where is this story going?”

“I’m going to ask him out. On a date.”

The everquill started moving again when Chad redirected his focus. “You don’t date.”

  “Of course, I date.”

“In the three years I’ve lived with you, name one person you’ve dated. And a quick coffee, then back to their room, doesn’t count.”

Bayne thought back to the many, many men he’d been with. He must have bought dinner for at least one of them. Gone to watch a play, maybe went for a walk? But he couldn’t think of a single name. “I do date,” he mumbled, “starting tomorrow.”
