  Chapter1

It was definitely a bad hair day for Hannah. She stared at herself in the mirror in disgust. She put a pale white hand to her midsection and squeezed the skin that went over her pants. She frowned at the offending skin that wasn’t supposed to be there. Working out was clearly not working although she could probably go more often then once a week.

Hannah was trying to be careful when it came to her diet, but sometimes she had cravings. Well she had a lot of cravings, for McDonald’s, Taco Bell, the occasion desire for ice-cream. She had always been a little larger than most, but now she felt like she was really pushing it. While dressing for work that morning she had tried on various outfits. All of them had looked good when she had bought them mere weeks before, but now all of her clothes made her feel like a whale. She was hating life at this moment in time.

She had a very important meeting at work as well. Well technically it wasn’t very important for her, but for her boss, Ian. Ian McGregor, the owner of the Tech company she worked for. She was his secretary and today she had to sit in with him and take notes. She had to look her best, her most professional, but it seemed that none of her clothes were fitting her for the occasion. She had wanted everything to go right today and it seemed like it was starting off terribly.

Hannah turned away from the mirror and began to sift through the various professional clothes she owned. Finally she found a long grey dress that seemed to hide her frame well and she put that item on. Then she paired it with a black cardigan and low heels. She then went to investigate herself in the mirror before putting on a little make up. After she was done she stared at herself in the mirror not knowing how to respond to her average looks. She was OK to look at but nothing spectacular stood out about her. She had brown eyes and brown hair with pale skin. Her body was shaped like an hour glass but probably not in the flattering way. She could do with losing a good fifty pounds, according to her doctor, but up until a couple of months ago she felt fine about herself. She knew it was the sudden weight gain that made her feel gross, but no matter what she did she could not seem to snap out of it. She had tried exercising, but it was hard to do it everyday and even when she wanted to eat right she craved unhealthy things like chips and dip, and ice-cream. She went two whole weeks without touching a carb and saw no difference. This resulted in a huge carb binge to get over the depression it caused.

“I guess this is as good as it’s going to get.” Hannah mumbled to herself as she inspected her frizzy brown hair. She pushed her large hipster glasses closer to her face and then left the bathroom feeling depressed.

She grabbed her purse and keys and then headed to her car in the apartment garage to drive to work. On her way to work she made a plan to eat healthy that day, knowing she was lying to herself, even as she made her plan, but she wanted to do something different. She was 24 years old and no guy ever looked at her twice and if he did she felt it was probably because she was wearing something weird. She thought vaguely about how she was probably going to die a spinster eaten by rabid rats and wild dogs. No one would find her body since she didn’t have many friends and her parents were no longer around. She hadn’t had a boyfriend in years and the most excitement she got out of her life was watching her hot boss talk about Tech company dealings and other boring material. She knew she needed to change something if she was going to escape the depressing place she found herself in, but what could she really do?

She felt like she had exhausted all of her possible ideas. She’d tried joining a gym, eating right, going out more, but there was nothing she did that really seemed to matter to people. Everyone looked right through her and no one acknowledged her. People, it seemed didn’t care about her and that was probably the icing on the cake that made her feel so awful about everything. She vowed to herself as she drove through the streets of the city that something was going to change.

That day's work was one of the worst she had ever endured. She had arrived mere minutes before Ian had gotten in so she didn’t have time to prepare his plan for the day or get anything that he was going to need. She had just sat down in her seat when Mr. McGregor came into the office with a smile and a wave to everyone. He stopped in front of her desk and gave her a small smile.

“Hello Ms. Barrett, how are you today?” Ian asked smiling down at her.

She smiled shyly back at him and fumbled around her desk.

“Good Morning Mr. McGregor.” She stuttered searching for her notepad with his messages from Friday. She had yet to listen to the ones that were left over the weekend, and she knew there would be a huge amount of them. Since the company was international they had a lot of calls at odd hours due to the time difference.

“How was your weekend?” Mr. McGregor asked as he watched her sift through her desk.

“Good.” She said quietly finally finding the notepad. She looked up at him with huge worried eyes. “I’m really sorry, but I still have to check the messages and still put together your list of meeting today, Mr. McGregor. I didn’t expect you in so early this morning.” Hannah said apologetically.

Ian frowned and shifted the sleeve of his business suit to check his Rolex. “Huh…this is the time I get here every Monday…” he said trailing off.

Hannah’s face turned a bright red realizing that in fact he wasn’t early, she was late. She had apparently spent too much time changing clothes and worrying about looking good.

“I’m really sorry.” Hannah stuttered, her already red face turning the color of a ripe raspberry.

“It’s alright. Just hurry up, we have a big investor meeting this morning so just drop everything off before ten if you will.” Ian said with a slight smile.

Hannah nodded and hurriedly got to work on retrieving his messages along with his meetings for the day.

That was only the first thing
to go wrong in her day. After she was done getting the messages and schedule out of the way she began to get ready for the meeting when in her hurry to prepare herself she spilled her hot coffee all over her lap. She let out a loud yelp causing a few people in her vicinity to look at her. She blushed a deep red and hurried to the bathroom to try and clean herself off. As she blotted off her skirt she realized she wasn’t the only person in the bathroom.

“…see what she was wearing today.” A high pitch voice said.

“I know, right! Grey! And the black cardigan! God! Where does she shop? Salvation army?” the other equally hot pitched voice said.

Hannah grimaced when she realized the two women in the stalls were Wendy Y and Wendy I her fellow secretaries. The two women were secretaries on separate floors, but they were notorious for always being together. They were also extremely catty women.

“I know, and she’s supposed to be his secretary. A professional! God! I bet he only hired her because he knew his wife would never be jealous or think he was sleeping with that.”

Hannah could feel her face burning with humiliation knowing they were talking about her. She hurriedly washed her hands as the toilets flushed and she rushed into a stall. She listened as they continued to tear her down. She was surprised that she didn’t feel worse about what they were saying. The nasty things that spouted from their generic lipstick mouths should have made her sob, much like they had the first time she had heard them talk about her. This time it was different though. She had heard everything Wendy with a Y and her counterpart Wendy with an I said. Several times.

Now she was so desensitized to the awful things that she didn’t even care. The first time was a different story though, she had sobbed in the bathroom for half the day until Michelle her one friend in the office had found her. Michelle wasn’t exactly a friend, but an acquaintance; someone she ate lunch with and occasionally after work went to the bar with. Michelle was a butch lesbian that Wendy and Wendy talked about as well. Those girls had a problem with anyone who did not abide by their “pretty girls code”. Michelle had helped her through it and then had taken her out to dinner that night. They bonded over their hatred of many things and love of even more. They were friends by default since no one else in the office really looked twice at them.

Once the two women left, Hannah took a deep breath and left the stall. She went to the mirror and stared at herself trying to block the awful things Wendy and Wendy had said. She closed her eyes tightly and thought to herself that she was strong and beautiful and could conquer today. She had gotten the saying from a self-help book and so far it had really helped her in multiple situations, such as getting through the very long work day. She took another deep breath and then left the bathroom to go get ready for the meeting.

When she got back to her desk her eyes widened in shock when she realized she had been in the bathroom longer than necessary since Ian was already in the conference room speaking. She hurriedly gathered a notebook and pen before shuffling into the conference room. She tried to open the door to the conference room quietly and shut it equally as quietly. She knew everyone’s eyes were on her and she entered the room while Ian was speaking. She looked around for an empty chair and saw one in the very corner of the room. She took a step too quickly and then suddenly she was falling forward. She had forgotten she was wearing a long grey dress and she had stepped on the material too quickly for the dress to handle. She face planted into the generic office carpeting eliciting a group gasp from the occupants in the conference room. Multiple hands hurried to help her up and she shuffled to her feet wanting to die. Ian stared at his secretary with wide eyes and stopped talking to go over to her.

“Are you OK?” he asked along with several other people.

“Yes, yes.” She said staring at the floor. She could feel her stockings had ripped and she knew blood was probably pouring out of her leg but she did not want to cause a further scene.

“Do you want to go to the bathroom and fix yourself? See the damage?” Someone asked.

Hannah looked over at Ian who nodded encouragingly. She quickly left the room and went back to the bathroom wanting to die of humiliation. As she stood staring at herself in the mirror she began to cry as the pressures of the day began to get to her.

It really was one of those days.

  Chapter2

The rest of Hannah’s day wasn’t much better.

After the meeting she tried to concentrate on her work, but people kept coming up to ask if she was OK. If that wasn’t bad enough she could hear Wendy and Wendy making fun of her falling. She hoped that the afternoon would be better. But it wasn’t. She had gotten Ian the wrong thing for lunch and had screwed up two of his meetings getting the time wrong. By three o’clock he told her to go home and come in refreshed in the morning. She miserably left the office feeling angry and upset with herself.

She knew that she needed a pick-me-up after her awful day so she went home after work and after changing into jeans and a nice shirt she went to one of the bars downtown. It was around six when she finally got there and since it was winter it was already dark out in the city, which seemed to make more people assume it was OK to drink earlier.

She went into the crowded bar and sat down in a vacant seat before ordering a shot of Wild Turkey and a beer. She attempted to drown her sorrows in the alcohol, but it was probably going to take more then one shot to do it. As she was on her fourth shot someone sat down beside her.

“A shot for the lady, please.” The English accent said delicately to the bartender. Hannah didn’t look up at the voice until a shot of amber liquid was sat down in front of her. She looked up surprised and towards the man on her right side who had ordered her the drink. This had certainly never happened to her before.

  “Hello.” The man purred.

Hannah looked shocked that this man was talking to her. He was pale, like her with black hair and deep green eyes.

  “Hi.” Hannah squeaked.

“I’m Adam. What’s your name?” the man said offering Hannah his hand.

“H-Hannah.” She stuttered taking the man’s hand in a daze.

“It’s nice to meet you.” he said smiling.

Hannah nodded not knowing what else to say. This was a first for her, no one ever went out of their way to talk to her especially at the bar and especially ordering a drink for her.

“I’m new to town.” Adam said after a long silence.

“Oh really? Do you like it so far?” Hannah asked smiling at him.

Adam shrugged, “It’s alright. Nothing spectacular yet.” He said sipping his bourbon.

“I hope I got the right thing. It looked like you were drinking Whiskey.” Adam said nodding down to her drink.

“Yes, yes. It’s great. Thanks.” Hannah said smiling.

“So what do you do, Hannah?” Adam asked smiling at her.

Hannah looked away blushing. Never in her entire life had a guy talked to her that was this attractive, unless he was dared by his friends to do so. She suddenly wondered if this was a prank but she decided to play it cool.

“I work. What do you do?” Hannah asked clearing her throat uncomfortably.

“I travel mostly. Occasionally work. Have you lived here all your life?” Adam asked.

Hannah nodded mutely. Adam ordered another shot for both of them. Hannah realized she was feeling nervous whenever she looked into his eyes. The two of them continued to talk for a long time, well mostly Adam was talking and Hannah was trying not to pass out. Hannah was pretty proud that she had kept the conversation going, although she was still a little skeptical as to why this man kept wanting to talk to her. There were a ton of other hot young women in the bar and yet he kept only been talking to her and buying her shots. It was nearly midnight when she finally decided to call it a night.

“I think we should call a cab.” Adam said as equally as drunk as she was. She nodded not really thinking of it.

“Or you could come back to my place. Leave your
car here, I just live down the street.” Adam said giving her a small hopeful smile.

By this time Hannah’s inhibitions were very lowered but even when sober she was not going to turn this down. She thought about the offer for a split second before conceding. She hadn’t had sex in quite sometime. She had also not been hit on ever by an incredibly attractive guy. She was sober enough to decide she did want to sleep with him, if that is what he was planning anyway.

“Lets go back to your house.” She slurred putting her jacket on and throwing a random amount of money on the table to cover her tab. Adam watched in amusement as she stumbled out of the door. He licked his lips as his eyes flashed a light shade of yellow before he followed her.

  *

“How far are you?” Hannah asked as they walked down the deserted streets. It was a weekday after all, how many people were really out right about now.

“Not far.” Adam said watching her carefully. When they reached the mouth of an alleyway he suddenly pushed her into the shadows and attacked her lips. Hannah let out a surprised moan, her eyes wide with shock from the kiss attack but she gave in to Adam knowing this was what she wanted and needed all along. She realized that all of her pent up frustration and change in her life was because she needed a good lay and Adam was the one that would give it to her right now.

He dipped his tongue into her mouth and explored the moist cavern. His hands were gripping her arms as he pressed her into the wall. He was a nice kisser, probably one of the best she had experienced.

Hannah’s moan of surprise had turned to one of pleasure as his talented tongue danced with hers and then without warning he broke away and began to move down her neck.
