year later, we bought her a playmate, a calico kitten named Pixie. Yahtzee hated Pixie with a passion, but we loved ’em both.
The summer I wrote “Model Pet,” we were watching a friend’s cat, Ninja. Around that time we also had an issue with some kind of noisy thing up in our attic, prancing about on our ceiling tiles at all hours of the day (or night). So as my mind wandered one night, I envisioned what it would be like if a character stuck a cat into the ceiling and the thing it found wasn’t a rat at all.
Two days later, and “Model Pet” was born.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jack Kardiac was born in Siloam Springs, Arkansas and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was raised on a steady diet of comic books, Twilight Zone episodes, and Alfred Hitchcock paperbacks. He watches Die Hard every Christmas and Peter Jackson’s King Kong once every summer. In reality, he likes to make people think, laugh, and change the world for the better. When he writes, he enjoys having people desperately running for their lives. Preferably from a giant monster.
Jack currently lives in the remote jungles of Indonesia where he teaches Creative Writing to young, impressionable minds.
And yes, he has a twin brother.
