Posthumously I would like to thank my father, whose nickname was Lucky, for sharing his boyhood adventures. He was full of amusing stories. Some were true, some made up. When I was a little girl, he had me enthralled.
Mowbray Brothers combines two of my favourites: the secret fishing hole inside the bathing enclosure of the Mowbray Park baths, and the swimming race across a shark-infested river.
Thank you to Brisbane City Council, who awarded me a prize in the One Book Many Brisbanes competition for this short story.

Debbie Terranova is a Brisbane-based author of contemporary and historical fiction and non-fiction. She specialises in ‘fiction with a conscience’, meaning fictional stories based on true events and set in a particular era.
By day she works as a human resources professional in a large organisation. By night she lets her imagination fly.
Debbie is a regular speaker at libraries and book clubs. Her most popular presentations are about indie publishing and the ‘stories behind the story’.
When Debbie is not writing or out promoting her latest work, she gets together with her writing buddies or hones her craft through writers' seminars and courses. She is an active member of the Queensland Writers Centre and the Australian Society of Authors.
