Advances in Hospital Information System, Page 3

Security concerns are often cited as among the greatest hurdles to implementing SaaS. ITWorld.com, a resource and reference Web site for the IT community, identifies four basic areas of concern:

  1. Data center security

  2. Application security

  3. User security

“The best SaaS providers in the market have had detailed discussions on each of these  areas with their customers, demonstrating how present age  SaaS solutionsares are  as secure, and frequently more secure, than what an internal IT department can provide,”  Concluding that SaaS implementations have proved to be  more secure than on-premise solutions.”

The SaaS data center is secure because it is accessible from only two points: the front end, where the client accesses their data, and the back end, used by the SaaS provider for maintenance and management. By contrast, an on-premise server or data center can be accessed by anyone with the ability to tap into the system, from any computer on the system. Record has it that rogue employees and lost laptops are the primary sources of data loss and theft.

SaaS applications in the cloud remove the laptop issue and even the smartphone issue, SaaS applications are secure because well-designed SaaS technology goes beyond the standard password-access methods. The inclusion of encryption of the password, fields texts and attachments and most important the logging the number of attempts made by a user to log on makes a SaaS application secure and foolproof.

User security is stronger with SaaS compared with traditional systems because identity management is maintained in the user’s directory access protocols. Permissions and denials are controlled by the user’s administrator, and the directories can be inside the organization’s firewall, at the SaaS provider’s site, or in a third location. Finally, constant monitoring and testing of the system by the SaaS provider ensures that it’s running without errors and that there is no breach of security.

The best SaaS providers in the market discuss each of these areas with their customers, demonstrating how their SaaS solution is as secure, and frequently more secure, than what an internal IT department can provide.

Present age Hospital Information Systems like SaaS applications help assist hospitals to track HAI and medical errors and also provide a complete hospital management system and electronic medical records system, which will also reduce costs, reduce time, and improve quality. And maybe also help reduce the deaths because of medical errors in hospitals.

The challenge for us in India is the technology challenge, the business model challenge to make it scalable and sustainable, and the delivery model itself. I realized that “Cloud computing is more than just another IT platform shift. It will transform not only the IT industry, but every sector of the society, especially healthcare. Use of cloud computing in healthcare is still in its infancy in India, but as economic and institutional factors improve, it could greatly accelerate digitization and transform how even cell phones are used in healthcare. It might serve as an important catalyst in improving health and wellbeing in India”

Present age Hospital Information Systems like SaaS represents one of the highest levels of technological advancement in the evolution of the healthcare industry! But, A mindset shift is required……Reach for the cloud now!! Change ….before you have to!!!
