Always Be There, Page 3

Athens Vamlets

There was less than half month before Christmas’ arrival. The weather was starting to go down in San Diego, especially early in the morning. Adam lifted his eyelid, and turned his head to look at the clock. It was 9:30 in the morning, he felt cold on his bed. He then found a cooler hand under the sheets, he nervously hold it and checked on Reese. Thank God. Adam thought to himself. She was still breathing, he couldn’t believe the days without her beside him. It was always her and his band mates who made him happy, after the split with his family.

He carefully rounded his arms around Reese’s neck, not wanting to wake her but only to give her warmth and comfort. Reese rolled over nearer to Adam. Adam then looked down on her to see if she was awake but he discovered that she didn’t look sober. She was resting her head and right hand on Adam’s chest. Adam stared out of the window on his left and lost deep inside his thought. He felt Reese body was warmed up before he fell asleep again with Reese so close to him on bed. He was exhausted.

‘Hon.’ Reese shaking her united hand with Adam’s to wake him. She felt mild and cozy with Adam’s gentle hand on her waist. She was thinking if she was in God’s cuddle in heaven, but this was her Adam’s perfect masculine deodorant scent. He loved using Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue fragrance; he had bought her the feminine collection too. They always used the perfumes when they went out together.

Raul, Karle, Max and Ryan always said ‘Oh my God, it’s disgusting. I couldn’t stand it.’ When they kissed, hugged or looked into each other’s eyes. And Reese would just laugh it off.

‘Hmm?’ Adam moaned in a sleepy tone, barely awakened by his wife. ‘What?’ he said.

‘It’s three.’ Reese sat up on the bed, and looked down on her husband with her right hand softly strolling on his face. ‘Shouldn’t you be leaving?’ She asked.

‘Oh my God.’ Adam immediately forced his eyes open and looked at the clock beside him. ‘Fuck.’ He murmured. ‘Oversleep.’ He turned to Reese and placed a kiss on her cheek.

Adam rushed into the bathroom for bathing and cleaning up himself for the concert.

‘When will the plane take off, actually?’ she shouted to the bathroom, while she was still sitting on the bed, with her arms rounded her knees.

‘Probably four-thirty.’ He answered blurrily with the toothpaste in his mouth. ‘You should get change, Babe.’

‘Why?’ Reese loosened her feet from her arms on the ground, and sitting on the edge of her bed. Suddenly, everything came dark before her eyes. She felt so dizzy and powerless. Adam probably had said something, but those words had totally grazed before her ears. Hopefully, she slowly recovered before Adam was standing in front of her.

‘You’re fine? Sweetie?’ he placed his hand on her shoulder and giving her comfort. Her lips and face had turned into pale and white with a toilsome face.

‘Yeah, I’m good.’ She lied. She stood up in front of Adam and hugged him. He was not going to be there when I die. She thought. ‘I should get some rest, I am not coming with you.’ Reese wanted that warming hug one last time before he leave. Nothing on earth could compare with his hugs, cuddles, kisses and those amazing blue eyes, and maybe God’s does.

‘Alright, then.’ He looked curiously on his wife with his brow wrinkled. What’s going on with her? He thought.

Reese buckled the buttons and the suit for Adam; this could probably be the last time.

Adam kissed Reese on her lips, almost making out with her before he left home for the airport. ‘Take care, Adam.’ She looked into those shiny blue eyes before she closed the door behind him. The last Adam’s handsome face would certainly be in Reese memories forever.

‘Hey, Reese.’ The nurse in the hospital greeted her friendly, almost the whole crew in the hospital recognized Reese. ‘How you doing?’ she asked.

‘Hey, Cindy. I’m not so great. Anyway, thank you.’ She thanked her with a soft weak voice and asked, ‘I’m here for Dr. Naples. Is he here?’ Reese had tidied up the house she shared with Adam very slowly; she forced herself to do that before her weakened body couldn’t stand it. She wanted the house feel warm like it always do when Adam returned home, even without her presence. After that, she came back to the boring white hospital. It was almost eight now. There was half more hour to go before the Life’s concert in New York. She smiled to herself.

‘Yeah, he’s here. I’ll go get him. Why don’t you get a room for rest? Flora will bring you there.’ Cindy answered, and turned around to find Dr. Naples. The other nurse appeared in front of the reception and led her to the room she would always stay when she’s here.

‘Reese?’ Fred knocked at the door, and freaked Reese out when she was deep into her thoughts about Adam and his band. She was sitting beside the window. San Diego’s skyline was so amazingly beautiful, the neon lamps and lights with the clear and dark blue night sky. And what does New York’s looks like? She thought. She had never been out of the county, but only with Adam in France.

Reese’s body popped and turned her head around to look at the person before the door.

‘Oh, Doc. You freaked me out.’ She said, without starring at him, she quickly enjoyed back to the view outside the window.

‘Oh, really? You feeling…..?’ he starred at his patient, and concerned about her so much.

‘Not great. I almost knocked out this afternoon when I woke up.’ She answered.

  ‘Adam knows?’ He asked.

‘No, of course. This will distract him from music.’ She murmured.

‘You are probably thinking of Adam now. Aren’t you?’ he inserted his hands into the doctor’s jacket pocket and rested his body against the wall.

‘Yeah. He told me to go with him. You know.’ She gave out a sigh. Shaking her head, she was feeling heartbreaking of leaving Adam alone in New York.

‘Want to take a walk with me?’ Naples asked, trying to console and comfort her.

‘Yeah, definitely.’ She answered, she stood up from the chair so difficultly, her body was probably getting worse than ever. She almost couldn’t feel her own body and heartbeats.
