CHAPTER 2

  Tyler and Jake have same major sociology. They were in class. There were four rows, Jake sit ahead of Tyler in first row he look at Tyler who sit in next row during lecture, when Tyler notice he look him back. Jake wave at him but Tyler turn his head as he give him no response.

  Jake feels his rudeness and made him annoying face. Alice was staring Jake for a while. Jake look at her accidentally as he turn his head and Alice wave at him in love as she sit in next row to Tyler. Jake gives her the same expression that Tyler gives him only to tease her. Then smile, but Tyler saw it and then Tyler wave and smile at Alice to tease Jake.

  Both Alice and Jake get shocked, Alice shy and smile then get back on her writing. Tyler look at Jake then roll his eyes with smile. Jake get annoyed because of Tyler’s act but then he let that go because he want to get friend with Tyler for Kate and also because he’s very popular in school and he thinks when Tyler know how cool stuff he do to school’s bullies, Tyler will definitely join him,

  The class over everyone leaves, except Jake and Tyler. Jake waits for Tyler at the door of classroom. As Tyler move toward the door Jake block his way and says “well look like you don’t know me. Let me introduce myself again… I’m Jake Drew Kate’s best friend and our fathers are also friends remember… how’s Uncle Dan?”

  Tyler did not say anything, just stand there holding his bag. Jake takes a moment pause then again said “you do know… because of me Kate not accepts your proposal at first place”

  Tyler looks at him ... His face show he gets annoyed and can’t do anything.

  Jake continue “I can tell you everything about Kate… her likes, her dislikes, her favorite actor, songs everything and because I like you too, you are a good guy like me. And we should be friends too, I have a feeling we will be great friends… trust me”

  Tyler raises his eye-brow and look at him

  “If we become friends ... You came one step closer to Kate, you just need to say one word” Jake said as he show off his attitude. He thought Tyler say “friends ... And shake hands” so he move his hand toward Tyler, but get surprised when Tyler said “MOVE”

  Jake feels annoyed and angry then move away. As Tyler leaving the class Sophie block his away and smile at him.

  “Hey ... I told you I was coming” Jake said as he saw her, he really get excited every time he sees her. She gets distract by Jake like she was thinking something else. Brown eyes, black hair light brown complexion and perfect tune body, Sophie was the head cheer leader.

  Then suddenly, she move and kiss Jake in front of Tyler then said “you know I hate to wait” she did it as she is showing someone else. Tyler smile and leave.

  Jake who was surprise by the sudden move, gets in his sense and says “sorry I was kind of busy”.

  “Why are you talking to Tyler...? I mean about what” Sophie said ignoring Jake’s excuse.

  “well I want to be friends with him for Kate but he’s so rude and stupid ... Think that he’s someone special ... If it isn’t for Kate .I never talk to that jer…” Jake interrupt as Sophie said “let’s go... I am tried”.

  Kate was in the library returning books, when she saw Tyler coming toward her, she pretend she didn’t see him and pretend to search her book and move inside the row of book shelf . Tyler came near to book shelf and stand backing the shelf

  “Hey... So the only place someone find you alone ... is library. Because every time I saw you, you are with some friends... Teachers ...or someone else” Tyler said smiling.

  Kate who was so excited did not get the last part, did not realize the meaning of SOMEONE ELSE.

  “Well books are also my friend they tell me so many things and did not mind if I ignore them... Like humans” Kate said as she looks at him.

  “So you going to be with your friends all day or can someone who’s waiting for you get a chance to have a drive with you” Tyler asks with a smile.

  Kate laugh then said “Just half hour ... Jake has a report and I’m searching books for him... He doesn’t like it here, like so many guys, so I have to do this for him”.

  Tyler get serious then said “fine ... Let me watch you… how smart you are” as Kate laugh librarian give them sign to keep quite.

  Tyler smile and look at her quietly but this time he was not pretending. His eyes have love, so many words to say to Kate. Kate notice and ask “what” Tyler down his eyes then say “nothing”.

  “So he can have time for sneaking around someone house but not to complete his assignment… right?” Tyler said, pretending to look for a book. Kate hesitate, she never want Tyler to have Jake’s bad impression.

  “What…” Kate asked, like she doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

  Tyler know she’s acting “I know he’s the one who sneak in Jesse’s house” Tyler said. Kate smile and put couple of economic and accounting books on tables then said as she scooted a chair to sit “huh… how do you know that…”

  Tyler sits parallel to her and quietly said “he post on Facebook… under title “tips to be a spy”… and upload his picture saying… “How to sneak in someone house” behind Jesse’s house. Not everyone is stupid like Jesse”, then look down in his book.

  Kate smile, she know Tyler is smart “okay… someone here is so smart… no one else told me this” she look at Tyler “maybe…no one else see back side of Jesse’s house” Tyler said quickly.

  Kate look at Tyler then back to her writing she said “Jake think, he can become a spy… and it’s not bad everyone have a right to dream… he post stuff like that to be a spy but in reality Jake can’t do it” Kate cover Jake, Tyler was surprise to listen Kate, he never thought Kate talk like that about Jake. “Really??” Tyler asks in astonishment.

  “Really… trust me… my friend never done anything bad, he sometime talk like that… but he never dare to do this in real… he is a really nice guy…he even scared to go in basement without light” Kate said smiling. “You will like him… once you get know him” Kate said in confidence looking at Tyler and Tyler smile, she was sure that Tyler will never think about Jake like that again, but she was wrong.

  “Ouch! Easy Ki don’t sew my body with clothes,” Jake said as Kate is fitting his suit

  “Well I’m sorry… I’m not an expert in sewing…I just saw Maria doing it and she taught me basic only. And who told you to wear Max’s clothes, when you can buy yourself… I know Doc give you money for prom” Kate said as stitching his shirt from back.

  She is thinking about Tyler, praying that he won’t go to her home. She curses herself because she forgets her cell phone on her house, she was thinking what if Tyler call her and she can’t attend he’ll be so mad but she was so excited for tonight.

  She was wearing one stripe navy blue fork and black bow around her neck, her brown locks was right-side clipped and fall on her shoulder.

  She is wearing black heels and white earring that Jake give her on her 16th birthday, she look perfect.

  Jake called her at last moment because he wants to fit his shirt. Jake is wearing jet-black suit with red tie.

  “Ki… can I ask something” Jake asked hesitantly, he thought maybe Kate minds.

  “Jake… what’s wrong…have I ever said no?” Kate normally said busy in her stitching.

  “I saw Tyler going in library yesterday… of course he was there for you… did he talk about me?” Kate surprise and shout as her finger get sting from sharp needle.

  “What happened” Jake asked curiously. “Hmm… nothin” her finger in her mouth then continues “he didn’t say anything about you Jake…but I told him that you are so good in friendship”

  “And what he said…” Jake asked quickly, Kate hesitate “he smile… like okay” Kate said as she help him wear his coat. “That means I should tell him about my secret spy stuff…”

  “What no… never Jake” Kate shout. “Why not… trust me Ki…
I know we make a great team together” Jake said.

  “Jake… he’s different…some people are, they like to be alone and… just do want they like to do… he never understands your cause and the way you do this…he may take it in a wrong way… please Jake promise me you will never talk to him about this” Kate said quickly.

  “It’s not that hard to keep this promise…he never talk to me anyway… we never talk about anything… it’s like I’m invisible for him” Jake said in disappointment and look himself in mirror, Kate feels his disappointment but she was

  He was looking very dashing like David Beckham as Kate calls him, when he gel up his hairs and put them back “There you go …nice” Kate said to Jake as she finished.

  “How do I look?” Jake asked nervously. Kate smile and say “just like David Beckham”

  “Stop it…I don’t” Jake said, looking himself in mirror .he was blushing and they laughed...

  ...

  “You are not ready Tyler” Tyler’s dad asked him as he enters in house. He looked serious.

  “She’s still in that jerks house. I do not get it why I am going with her anyway if she likes to be with him. She have to go with him dad” Tyler said and realize someone presence as he slightly turn his head.

  He knows who is it, but went upstairs without saying anything further.

  “We want her Tyler!” Tyler’s dad said loudly.

  “I know… but I can’t be her dog dad!” Tyler said loudly and shut his room door so hard.

  After a little while the door Bell rang of Mr. Flaw’s house. It was Kate, she was worry and nervous.

  Maria Kate’s house maid told her that Tyler came to her house but she was at Jake’s.

  Tyler’s dad Mr. Daniel Flaws opens the door. Black hair and eyes, He was a tall and bold person as he was an ex-marine and now own a store in town, as Jake told her. Jake dad and Mr. Flaws were friends and so many times Kate saw them together talking.

  “Good evening Mr. Flaws …is Tyler home?” Kate asked she is feeling very nervous.

  “Of course…my dear you must be Kate …right? Tyler’s date …you look pretty” Mr. Flaws said in his British accent with pleasant way, now Kate gets relaxed and says “Yes ...thank you”.

  “Let me call him…you’ll wait here” said as they move to TV lounge and Mr. Flaws move toward Tyler’s room.

  “You look very beautiful Kate” someone said from her back, Kate smiled as she know who was it .it was Dr. Alex Drew Jake’s dad.

  He has black eyes and hair. He was tall and handsome man wearing blue-line shirt and navy blue pants with black shoes.

  After Kate grandfather, he takes care of her. He was also her grandfather’s doctor. His grandfather trusts him so much. But her grandfather did not tell him anything about Kate’s parents and where she came from.

  Kate likes his personality so much and she idealizes him. “Thanks Doc” Kate said, she calls him Doc.

  “But…shouldn’t he be the one to pick you up for the prom?” Dr. Drew asked cleaning his glasses.

  “Yeah…I know but I was with Jake Doc …I was fitting his shirt because he wear Max’s suit.” Kate said and realized that she should not say that.

  Mr. Flaws came and said “Well...he’s upstairs, he is a bit angry, if you like you can go to his room and talk to him”.

  Kate nod and went to Tyler’s room. She knocks the door then opens it. Tyler was sitting on his bed tying his sneakers.

  She enters in the room, she was very nervous as she was twisting her finger then said “I’m so sorry Tyler …I didn’t know you’ll be on time…I was just …I’m sorry”. Kate said everything came into her mind; it was the first time she was excusing to someone and was not confident about the reaction.

  She never saw Tyler so angry. “I go to your home and return with door on my face and you…” Tyler said still tying his sneakers stop as he raises his head to see Kate.

  He thought “WOW…she look really beautiful” but suddenly takes his eyes off and stand to look himself in mirror.

  Kate understands and smiles, without saying anything they get out of his house. Kate notices that Dr. Drew was gone.

  “At least stop texting to him while we are together” Tyler said he gets annoyed by Kate texting Jake; he was driving towards prom party.

  “Sorry …Jake is so excited; he is texting like about 15 times of how beautiful she’s looking!” Kate said she was so happy.

  She never saw Jake so happy. “You know Jake’s really happy tonight he’s been trying for Sophie since we were in 8th grade…but I always told him that you’re not her type Jake! give it up…but tonight ...well my friend is not that bad…I told Alice ,see Jake is so handsome that Sophie asked him by herself … Well Jake is so lucky tonight…can’t wait to see everyone faces when they going to see Sophie with Jake…all those boys will show him respect after tonight “ Kate said.

  She was excited. Tyler saw her then roll his eyes and thought “lucky…yeah right”! He gives one-side smile then said “hmm...good luck to him …for tonight.”

  “Oh… I forget to tell you, I saw these beautiful earrings in mall, for Sophie’s birthday…would you like to come tomorrow with me” Kate asked softly.

  “You mean… you and me alone go to the mall?” Tyler replied. “What that supposed to means?” Kate said.

  “Means… is Jake gonna be with us too?” Tyler said and look at Kate then back on the road.

  “No… it’s a surprise for Jake and his girlfriend…” Kate said after a moment pause.

  “Great then I will pick up” Tyler said, Kate smile in affirmative but she didn’t like the way Tyler said about Jake.

  They reached to the prom. Tyler parked the car. Kate saw Jake holding Sophie’s hand they were talking prom photo shoot.

  For a moment, Kate feels very peace when she saw Jake smiling and looking at Sophie. She smile as she felt like she’s done.

  Tyler calls her name and she came back to real life. She hold Tyler arm and they went for photo shoot.

  Everyone was dressed up so properly. The school court was decorated with colorful balloons on floor which look beautiful, lightening was everywhere. Above door the banner was placed showing “Welcome to Junior Prom”.

  She saw Alice dancing with Stephen on dance floor under the colorful disco balls and very loud music. Tyler takes her to the upper floor.

  “Look…its full moon…I love full moon. Have you ever seen sea under the moonlight… man it look so enchanting” Kate pointed on the sky.

  “Why are we up stairs… shouldn’t we be on dance floor?” Kate asked looking at the sky.

  “No I hate loud music…and these kinds of parties, also the crowd” Tyler said looking at her.

  “So why did you to come to prom…” Kate asked, as she knows the answer. “Some reasons…”Tyler said.

  They were at balcony. Tyler was staring at Kate. When Kate notice then she asked

  “What… Is something wrong with my face?” Tyler smile then hold her hands push her near to him and says,

  “Kate…I want to say something to you for a while…I …”he moved to kiss her. He put his hand on her cheek, Kate can feel his breath. Her heart pounding so fast, her eyes were close. They were about to kiss and her cell phone ring and her perfect moment break.

  “Sorry…it has...let me off it…”Kate said. Her hands shaking but suddenly everything change when she saw whose calling her.

  She looks at Tyler who was looking down and says “it’s important…can you get me a drink…”

  “OK…,”said Tyler and leave.

  When she fully satisfied that no one is around her as she look around, she attend the call and say “uncle”. The person, other side of the phone speaks in Russian

  “(happy birthday Kate, if that what they call you there…you look very beautiful tonight… just like your mother)”

  “(It’s not my birthday uncle...Tonight it’s my prom party,)” Kate said in Russ
ian.

  “(Oh… yes for them…but in real…anyway, why do you change your name it was so beautiful, do you know who you name after...but its fine I like this too)”her uncle said.

  “(Yes…great grandmother…Well thank you .why do you call me uncle ...)” Kate said in Russian.

  “(Am I bothering you… dear)” her uncle said. “(no uncle… it’s not like that… it’s just that I told you, I’ll call you when I was alone…you need to understand)” she said after a moment pause.

  “(I am sorry my dear ...I just don’t want you to feel alone tonight, it’s your prom night. You suppose to feel good tonight)” her uncle said.

  “(Thank you so much uncle... But I don’t need anyone to be...)” Kate interrupt by her uncle.

  “(That boy you’re with what’s his name…”) Kate’s going to say his name but then her uncle her interrupt again and quickly said.

  “(Why is he beating your friend what was his name… Jake right… You should go downstairs ...good bye dear)” Kate surprised, as he hung up. She thought for a moment then run downstairs where she saw Tyler hitting Jake badly. She stands in shock for a moment, then run toward Tyler.

  She yell “get off…stop it” she pushed Tyler away from Jake who was lying on the floor.

  “Call 911 OH MY GOD! JAKE WAKE UP… JAKE…CALL THE AMBULANCE” Kate yells with heavy voice and takes Jake’s head on her hand, his blood on her hands and someone call the ambulance.
