Fifty Shades of Love, Page 2

A.M Rees

Walk beside me through the fire of our winter

and breathe the smoke from my lungs. Fill them with

your oceans of sun - warming my hope. But don’t,

please don’t tread upon the last golden leaf of autumn,

For then there will be no future just as

  there is no past.

   The Long Distant Love

The hardest thing about you being there,

Is not feeling your fingers through my hair,

Not knowing your touch upon my hand,

Now that your feet are on faraway land.

It's the glance in the morning that I used to see,

When you woke from your slumber and only saw me,

Or to lay in the silence and hear you breathe,

These things I can't feel since you had to leave.

Our moments, our memories, I replay in my mind,

They give me the hope that I need to find,

They brighten the darkness that I've come to feel,

These memories we share are the only thing real.

For your kiss, your lips, I don't know how they taste,

Making love calm and slowly or with passionate haste,

Although I try to recall them, they're elusive to me,

Like the tides of the ocean returning back to the sea.

I miss you my darling, please do know,

That I think of you always, where ever I go,

And these memories we have will never suffice,

I need you beside me to be in my life.

But I know we'll be together - it won't be long,

So please listen to my heart's beating song,

That beats just for you in the rhythmical tune,

I promise my darling, I'll be with you soon.

  The Engagement

Love is the silent whisper that echoes in your heart

It’s a bond that keeps us together even when we are apart,

It’s the music that serenades you each hour of the day,

This love –It gives life meaning in every single way.

It allows us to be children, to see the world with awe,

It turns us into alchemists, growing gold within our core,

And all lovers become magicians with the magic that we feel,

Except love is more than magic, it’s true, it’s raw, it’s real.

So look now deep inside you and know this to be true,

The child, the alchemist, the magician, the magic that resides in you,

Love gives us golden moments that we will always treasure,

And our love will be the part of us, that will live on forever.

  The Naked Truth

It is not my face you see

When you are eyeing me up at

The bar, or my moves on the dance

Floor, I see you admiring me from

  Afar,

And yes, I heard you wolf whistle

When I walked passed you on the street,

With make up on my face,

  High heels on my feet.

My conversation will hold you in rapture –

Make you think you want to be with a girl

  Like me.

But that girl that you want...

  That girl is not me.

Because, when I get home and I close the door,

I shed my clothes upon the floor,

And with it my confidence, this facade that’s

Not real – I take off my make up, I soon lose

  My appeal.

  Stripped.

  Naked.

No pretty mask to hide behind no clothes

  To cover my shame,

Because this confidence you see –

This confidence is just a game.

  What you don’t see is...

  My vulnerability.

  But then,

The door clicks and he walks in the room,

And he sees all my clothes, my facade

  And my doom.

But he looks at me like I have stardust in my eyes,

  Like I’m a gift

  Or a promise

That I was sent down from the skies.

He picks up the pieces of my broken heart and says,

‘Angel, I love you most like this’ and I know that it’s real,

Because I felt it in his kiss.

What he doesn’t realise is that he saves my life

  A thousand times a day.

So, next time you see a girl down the street

With make up on her face, high heels on her feet,

  STOP

And look beyond what you see,

Because under her skin, that’s her real beauty,

And if you love that woman,

And you love that woman right,

You’ll soon learn, there’s so much more,

  Than love at first sight.

  The Artist

I laugh at what I thought was love -

  Tiny insignificant feelings,

floating dust within the best room

  caught in Sunlight -

  Pretty, yes,

but not in comparison to the

  depths of the ocean, and

  just like the hidden world

that lays in the deep blue,

You introduced me to an entire

  new world. A World where

  everything is gilded with crimson

and gold - secret feelings of passion

  and hope.

  Exquisite pleasures.

You took me from a world that was once

as if looking through a darkened

  window, images outlined but no

  depths. No colour.

Ah! That is the greatest gift you give,

as if you painted the rainbow

on my blank canvas with your bare

hands as you caressed my skin.

  Like an Artist,

  you expertly bring flowers

to life, and create colours that never

  exist,

compose songs within my heart that have

  never been sung.

Ah! You may say my poetry brings

joy to your heart, but your heart brings

Joy to my poetry. And what were once words

are now fragments of my soul.

  And this is return

  Is my gift to you.

  The Vows

Falling in love is heady passion, a kiss and warm embrace,

It’s the thought of that one person puts a smile upon your face,

It’s the feeling of excitement when they walk into your life,

It’s the knowing they’ll stick by you through the laughter pain and strife.

Being in love brings you closer, it’s powerful, strong and true,

It’s the knot inside your stomach when they whisper, ‘I love you’,

It’s the beating of two hearts in one perfect time and motion,

It’s the unity of souls as they feel the same emotion.

But true love, this is different, it’s all of this and more,

It’s an everlasting feeling that resides within your core,

A precious few will see it, but it is clear to me,

That when we are together, it’s true love that I see.

So now can begin as we embark on our new life,

As we begin our brand new journey, of becoming husband and wife.

  The Argument

  I called him a liar,

  He called me a bitch,

I told him I wished we hadn’t got hitched.

  I embarrassed my friends,

  He embarrassed himself,

I wondered if we were perhaps beyond help.

  I slept on the couch,

  He slept in the bath,

If not so tragic, I think I would laugh,

But I’d run out of hope,

  He
ran out of luck,

The glue of our love had become unstuck.

  He made me coffee,

  I let it go cold,

The hangover worsening the story untold,

  He didn’t say sorry,

  I didn’t ask why,

And that was the reason our love started die.

  I held a grudge,

  He held out his arms,

This is what happens when the storm calms,

So I gave him a hug,

  He smiled with a strain,

And we vowed to never drink vodka again.

Not quite the happily ever after I was looking for. Two words?

  Monumentally Dumped.

  So now what?

Heartbreak, Sauvignon Blanc and copious amounts of chocolate ice cream – goes without saying. Throw in a few dating disasters, solo world travelling misadventures and now we’re talking.

And believe me, I didn’t sign up for this journey. You could say I accidently stumbled along the path of self-discovery, just as I accidently stumbled into bed with the wrong man…

  Plural: Men

Mistakes were made, but so too, were great memories, and it turns out, heartbreak could be just the thing you need.

You see, big dreams require big hearts – and all I had to do was learn how to piece mine back together again. Like me, you may find a broken heart is the best place to start…

"I laughed, I wept... if you want to 'wake up' and start living the life of your dreams, read this book." Rebecca O'Dwyer, Centred Woman
