  “I am free, sort of” John mumbled

  “Meet me at the Library after school, we will discuss our project and plan our research” Lilly

  “Ok sure, see you tomorrow”

  “Bye.”

  John was excited and sort of happy inside, he couldn’t sleep at night and kept thinking about the meeting he was going to have with Lilly. Next day in the cafeteria John saw Lilly sitting with her friends, she asked John to join her. She introduced John to everyone but everyone already knew the science master. Then after school John headed to library with Lilly. They discussed their project and their work plan but John was paying most of his attention to Lilly’s face and her smile and her hands and her hair and all of the things that any other girl has too, but John was captivated by the features of this particular girl. Lilly asked John, ”Hey you should come over tomorrow if you are free”

  “Yeah I can manage that”

  “Alright then, see you tomorrow partner” Lilly said with a soothing smile.

  John went to her house the next day; they studied and had a lot of fun together. More days passed they grew closer and became friends. They spent a great deal of time together and they were starting to develop the habit of each other. They had their lunch together at school, spent their weekends together and it wasn’t just about the science project but also because Lilly started to like John while John was already in love with her.

  The science fair was now only a day ahead now and John was nervous because he didn’t want to lose this time as he wanted to win and impress Lilly and prove his title “The science master” to her. John drove to Lilly’s and told her to go through the presentation again. Lilly saw the nervousness in John and asked, “Hey what’s wrong?”

  “Nothing”

  “No tell me what’s bothering you”

  “Really its nothing”

  “Come here, sit down and relax” Lilly softly pulled John. “Now tell me.”

  “I am just really worried”

  “About what? ”

  “What if we don’t win tomorrow?” John asked with a gloomy face.

  “Hey its not about winning or losing; its about how much fun we had and are going to have tomorrow, its about the great time we had.” Lilly tried to calm John down.

  “But I don’t want to let you down”

  “Neither do I, but I will standby you in victory and in defeat, partner”

  John was so overwhelmed by Lilly’s remarks that he couldn’t help himself and hugged her just like a child hugs his teddy bear. “Thanks, you are the best partner I’ve ever had” John exclaimed with a fraction of a tear in his eyes.

  “Awe! You’re welcome. Ok then see you tomorrow”

  “Bye”

  It was the science fair, next day. Everyone was excited, John and Lilly like other contestants reached at the school earlier to set up their project display. They had fun all day though John was a little occupied by the project but he managed to enjoy the fair. The judges came to their display; after listening to their presentation wrote their marks in a secret journal. The judges seemed happy with the presentation. In the evening closing ceremony was held. John and Lilly got the grand prize and were awarded a 60% scholarship at Stanford University. It was huge, they were so happy that they hugged their teachers as if they were friends. John invited everyone to their celebration party at his house that night and took Lilly along with their project display to his house. John’s parents were very happy on their victory as well.

  At the party John asked Lilly for a dance, “Hey Lilly would you like to dance?”

  “Yeah ok sure”

  John was an emotional lad and he could no longer hold his emotions back so he decided to tell Lilly about how he felt for her. “you look great today”

  “So do you”

  “Lilly I’ve been wanting to tell you that”

  “tell me what?”

  “That...”

  “Come on tell me”

  “I really like you, I like being around you, I like the way you smile, I like the way you calm me down, I like the way you believe in me, I like… I like us”

  “As a friend?”

  “As a friend too, but I think you are more than just a friend to me”

  “I like you too, but we shouldn’t complicate things between us.”

  “We aren’t complicating things, we are sorting out”

  “I don’t know where you want this to go”

  “ Hey do you trust me?”

  “you know I do”

  “Then give me five dates, just five dates and I’ll prove to you that we should be together and if I don’t then we can stay as friends only”

  “I don’t think that’s a good idea”

  “Come on five is all I’m asking” John insisted.

  “Ok but you can’t tell anyone that we are dating”

  “Whatever you say”

  “So how about Saturday 8’o’ clock?”

  “Ok”

  Saturday, John was excited, so was Lilly but John had it all figured out. Lilly knew that she was going to enjoy her time with John but she was unaware that it was going to be her best date ever.

  The first date was all about fun with a slight touch of romance. John wanted to make Lilly realize all the factors that made John the perfect guy for Lilly. Though John was a little nervous about the date but most of all he was worried about the cloths he was going to wear but then he looked in the mirror and said “You have to do this the right way, and I know that you got this. You have to prove to her that you are all that she could ever need. Now get yourself together, you’re the man”. Then he took the his navy blue suit and a light blue shirt with a black tie out of his wardrobe, wore it and then again looked in the mirror and said “cacao!” with a wink.

  On the other side Lilly took about three hours just to decide the dress she was going to wear and an additional hour to decide the shoes and the shade of her lipstick but anyhow she got through it. She wore an elegantly white dress the kind which you see in the movies. As the clock struck 8, Lilly heard a car outside her house, she went to check if it was John she looked out the window and there he was leaning on a black Chevy smiling at her. She smiled back at him and nodded her head and came out of the house as fast as she could without falling. John was charming as always but he was also a lot more handsome that night. As Lilly walked out of her house John was star struck, completely mesmerized by her knocking looks, her hair, her dress, her skin, her lips, everything about her was much intense that night. John presented her with one of the most romantic flowers in the world and they weren’t rosses this time they were white lilies. John opened the car door for her and she sat in the car smiling, John said “Its my fathers, the Chevy”

  “I know” she said with a slight smile.

  “You look absolutely stunning, really its like you’ve fallen right from the sky” He complimented or maybe just interpreted his heart.

  “Thanks, you look great too, the suit, the Chevy, the flowers, the presentation, I must say you have done your preparation.”

  John took packed dinner from a restaurant and then drove to the lake, this was surprising to Lilly and she kept asking John but John said “Wait and see for yourself” every time.

  As they reached the lake Lilly saw many light bulbs hanging, making a warm ceiling, under it was a small table with candles of course and an ice bucket with a wine bottle in it with two wooden chairs. John held Lilly’s hand and said “Shall we?”

  This was all very touching and intensely romantic, Lilly was impressed so far. They sat and ate the dinner, drank the wine which wasn’t expensive of course as John wasn’t the son of the DA. They did delightful chatter and kept staring into each other’s eyes. John served homemade chocolate tart as the dessert which Lilly knew that there was something special about it. John surprised Lilly by saying “I made it myself”

  “No way, you’re kidding” Lilly was astonished.

  “Wow that’s… that’s amazing John. Its delicious” Lilly enjoyed it.

  “Thanks” John said humbly

  After the dinner they kept talking and talking and lost the track of time but it was so indulging that they couldn’t help it. Lilly suddenly realized that it was too late now so they agreed to disrupt their conversation until next time. John leaned in for a kiss and Lilly didn’t mind but John kissed her on the left cheek while she thought that he was going to kiss her lips. This was yet another surprise for Lilly. John then drove to her home, Lilly said “John, it has been amazing really, everything was just above perfect. Thanks”

  “Well you’re welcome but its nothing as a cost to spend a wonderful evening with you.”

  After 5 days it was the second date. The second date was all about fun and bowling. The date left a rolling impression on Lilly, not mentioning how happy John was.

  Next week the third date was going to take place. The theme of the date was thrill and adventure. John took Lilly for hiking, although Lilly didn’t think that it was a good plan but John changed her opinion about it, he didn’t give her a moment to regret.

  Next Saturday it was fourth date, this time John wanted Lilly to live her childhood all over again. John took Lilly to a Happy Place Mall. They played with dolls, they fought a water battle, bounced in jumping castle, ate ice creams, rode in merry-go-round and did all the little crazy things that teenagers can’t even think of doing, as if they were two naughty kids.
