    Lostart Street

“Good luck,” Lorraine called, but her words barely registered.

When I settled before my typewriter, Milagro instantly jumped into my lap. I stroked her multi-colored ruff, thinking of the poem Pied Beauty—Glory be to God for dappled things. The sonnet praised the counter, original, spare and strange. All part of creation.

Milagro snuggled in and purred. I started the novel with the setting, a sense of place. I was usually weak on this. I never enjoyed reading descriptive passages, so I tended not to write them. This time I’d make sure my reader had a sense of place—these ugly, mustard-colored apartments on Lostart Street.

      ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Lostart Street has passed through two writing groups. Along the way, the book has gathered new bits. Sentences have been spit polished. Darlings have been cut. I owe many thanks to the writing groups members. The first group included: Anna Citrino, Sharlya Gold, Erica Lann-Clark, and Bob O’Brien. Members of the second writing group included: Jack Jones, Rick Parfitt, Cheri Wells, Chris Goddard, Lynda Scott, Chris Beal and Sandy Losik. Thank you all! I am also grateful for my beta readers Patricia Denke, Cindy Klassen, Margie Bunting, and Lynda Scott. All we have is time, and they generously gave me some of theirs. Crystal Edwards also offered an abundance of love through her work on my author photo.

As with all my books thus far, Lostart Street wouldn’t exist without the wonderful women at misterio press.

      ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Vinnie Hansen fled the howling winds of the South Dakota prairie and headed for the California coast the day after high school graduation.

As a child, she read books while huddled on top the dryer. Vinnie grew up to write numerous short stories and the Carol Sabala mystery series. The seventh installment in the series, BLACK BEANS & VENOM, made the finalist list for the Claymore Award.

Still sane after 27 years of teaching high school English, Vinnie has retired and lives in Santa Cruz, California, with her husband and the requisite cat.

Please visit her website at http://vinniehansen.com or find her on Facebook or Goodreads. Authors live and die by reviews. If you enjoyed Lostart Street, post something.
