It’s silent for a long while before he speaks. “Long enough.”
Everything is starting to make sense. Laura, Lennox, Scott, the Ellisons...they all knew. Thomas didn’t like me because of what I did to Soul before but he wanted to see if I would do it again. “You wanted to see what I was going to do if I didn’t know about the footage. And dare I say, so did you. You all knew about it before I offered.” I can’t believe what just happened. I also can’t believe the lengths Soul went through to clear his name. “You were willing to have your reputation ruined in order to give mine some credence.”
People have begun issuing public apologies to them, including the models who refused to work with him anymore. Soul is more popular than ever with men because he beat not one, but two false allegations against him.
Soul is quiet for a long moment and I figured that was it. He had nothing else to say to me and it doesn’t take me long to figure out we’re done. The damage is irrevocable and this was one last goodbye.
Just when I’m about to give up and start looking to move back to L.A, Soul does the unthinkable:
He starts humming. “Two Occasions” by The Deele.
I release a breath the same time tears stream down my face. “I thought it was over and you hated me.”
“I didn’t understand what was going on but I don’t hate you.” He beckons me closer and I snuggle into his arms. “I’ve never hated you despite our history.”
I feel Soul’s fingers wipe my tears away. “A storied one.”
“Very much so.” He sweeps his lips over mine and claims me again. My heart sighs as my body melts into his again. I couldn’t picture my life without Soul and I didn’t want to.
We only pull away for air. “So, what now?” I ask.
“Dinner and Netflix.” He nods, caressing my cheek while another hands holds my neck. “And then we’ll take it from there.”
“I probably won’t have a job after this,” I warn him. “So, I might be an awful roommate.”
“Or you’ll be the best wife.” His blue eyes shine at mine.
He wants to marry me. I will become Mrs. Ariana Ellison and damn it, I love the way it sounds already. “Oh, is that right?” I offer a small smile, though my insides are bouncing.
“I don’t like to play house because it’s a waste of time for both parties.” He pulls me closer to him and I feel his heart pound against my chest. “You don’t ever have to worry about money again, shorty.”
“Maybe I can volunteer my time to the Innocence Project,” I mention. The Innocence Project is an organization helps people who were wrongly convicted either become freed or get new trials.
“You can do whatever you want as long as we’re together.” He replies. He interlocks his fingers with mine and we start walking again. “Have you ever been to London Fashion Week?”
“No,” I shake my head, “when is it?”
“Tomorrow.”
“And when are we leaving?”
“Tonight.”
I giggle and Soul replies with a laugh of his own. “Can’t wait to go.”
