  Debbie walked over to me. “Hey baby, you okay? I called Willie and Thelma and they’re on the way,” she said rubbing my back.

  “The family of Mr. Ronny McDay,” the doctor walked in and said before I could answer her.

  “That’s us,” Debbie and I said at the same time.

  He cleared his throat and began speaking, “Mr. McDay’s surgery went well under the circumstances. He’s a real fighter,” he explained all of the damages that was done to Ronny.

  “But for the most part he will pull through. However…” he said and I began to breathe heavily and tremble. I didn’t like the sound of that ‘however’. He continued to speak, “He will be paralyzed from the waist down,” was all I heard before everything went black.
