She slid away, down to the other end of the couch. “Don’t expect me to help. I’m not getting dragged into the pool with you.” The girl completely abandoned me.
Rayne caught me around the waist and picked me up, throwing me over his shoulder. My vision filled with an upside-down view of his perfect ass. I squirmed in his grasp, but it was solid. I wasn’t getting away.
“Don’t you dare,” I shouted. “Rayne, don’t!”
As he carried me out to the patio, Corr glanced up from his book to slide me a smirk. Thought this was funny, did he? Ghost made no effort to come to my aid either.
Every worrisome thing Nova had just said vanished as the swimming pool got closer. My only thought was about how cold that water would feel as my entire body plunged into it. In that moment I didn’t care about anything but the werewolf carrying me to my cold, wet doom.
“I promise I’ll make this up to you later.” With a teasing smack on my ass, Rayne heaved me into the deep end of the pool.
As the water embraced me in its shocking chill, I silently promised there would be revenge on the mischievous werewolf. I surfaced to find him laughing his ass off from the edge of the pool.
I was more afraid than I’d ever been about the future and also more excited. There were few places in this world where I felt like I belonged. Time would tell if Mayhem House was one of them. Despite my fear of the forbidden attachments I’d formed, I had chosen to stay here. I decided to face this life, so unlike any I’d lived before.
I hoped like hell that I wouldn’t regret it.
