  “Who knows why they do what they do,” I snapped. “Who would have thought they’d come back for the girl after all these years. But they did. They think differently than we do. We will probably never know why they came back for either of the two.”

  “Maybe they wanted to make a pet of the scientist,” Tull joked. The rest snorted in amusement. “They take pleasure in stupid things like that.”

  I slammed my fist down on the table. “Because of this pet, I’ve lost the girl and the Anuans know we’re here!”

  Remembering their places, the room fell silent and heads bowed.

  “We must firm up plans. Our armies are strong enough now. My sister and nephew were lost at the hands of Tas and his family. I will give that pain back to them in equal measure, or as close as I can. An eye for an eye, as these Earthlings would say. I have not given up on the girl being a part of that. So, prepare yourselves, warriors. It is time for our revenge.”
