them off before they could come to her aid.
“Hey, Richard,” Mike announced as he removed his dark sunglasses and turned halfway around to face the television star, “we didn’t drive all the way here to pick you up for a joyride. You have a role to play in this, whether you like it or not, so put your damn arms around the woman and make her feel at home before I break them!” He growled with a haughty stare of malcontent.
Richard refused to look at his enemy but knew from the tone of his voice that the man was making a genuine threat. After a regretful session of contemplation, he opened his arms and scooted backward on the seat. Litz hesitated at the thought of enjoying this forced companionship, but the journey had been long, and she wanted some affection. The conflicted woman turned to the side and rolled into his arms with guilty optimism.
“That’s better,” Mike said as he put his sunglasses back on and turned to face the road with the documents in hand.
“What has she got planned for us?” Mitch asked his colleague with eagerness. “Is it going to work?”
“You don’t want to know,” the former CIA agent responded with a measure of hesitation, “but I think it might. There’s no training for something like this.” He finished with a sigh, continuing to glance down at the documents and back at the road ahead.
"I like when you're happy," Litz remarked in a whisper after turning her head to gauge Richard's expression. "And you can fantasize about hurting us, Richard, but I won't end you for hating me like a monster - I'll turn you into one."
THE END.
