“Thank you,” she whispered against his cheek. “You almost died for me.”
Pops grinned. “Takes more’n that to put an ol’ cuss like me down.”
Joy rolled her eyes. “You’re not old.”
“Yeah, darlin’, I am.”
“Nope. Are not. Miz Elena says you’re a silver fox. I agree.”
“Speakin’ of Miz Elena, where is—”
“She is right here.” Elena pushed through the knot of men. Her eyes glistened with tears but the tight lines around her mouth smoothed out as he reached for her. Joy backed away from the bed to make room for Elena, but not before pressing a kiss onto Pops’s cheek.
Elena went into his arms. “Ah, Papi. What am I to do with you?”
“Love me? Like I love you?”
“Sí, Papi. Yes. I will love you for now and always. And you are not an old cuss. You are my handsome man and you make me happy.”
See, handsome? Rosie whispered in his ear. I told you so. Now go live and be happy.
And he would. He would live a long and happy life now that he’d been given a second chance at love. And he would never stop fighting for Elena because she was his and he loved her. Now and always.

In case you’re interested, some of the characters in FIGHTING FOR ELENA have crossed over from three of my other series: Moonstruck, Moonstruck Wolf, and Nightriders MC. Mac, Nate, Boomer, and Joy all appear in my paranormal thriller series, Moonstruck, about a group of military special operators who just happen to be wolf shifters. Mac is the hero of BLOOD MOON, Nate in HUINTER’S MOON, Boomer in WOLF MOON, and we first meet Joy in BLUE MOON. Rook (though he doesn’t have his own book yet) appears in CRASH AND BURN, one of the Moonstruck Wolf books—standalone paranormal romantic suspense books, and he’s also a member of the Nightriders, an outlaw motorcycle club, so he also makes a cameo in NIGHT FIRE. As you can guess, they’re all wolf shifters. As an outlaw MC, the Nightriders ride on the dark side of romantic suspense.
