“Because Navar thinks of you as his friend, so that makes you mine too,” Mari stated simply, watching surprise round the woman’s eyes.
“I will remember your kindness. Perhaps we will meet again sometime. Now, canyon tell me what direction the fey went?”
“I think he turned north, but I’m not sure. I can call in some enforcers to see you safely out of this territory. Navar never told me what you were, and I don’t have the authority to shield you should the lycans find out you are here. But I have friends among the enforcers. They would be more than happy to see you get through Temple’s territory undetected.”
“There is no need. I’ve learned a thing or two from living with the sidhe. I’ll grab my target and be gone before your friends even make it to your establishment.”
“Well, then I won’t keep you. Good luck and keep upwind as much as possible.”
Mari watched as Cassie stopped just before stepping back out into the stifling heat. Casting a quick glance over her shoulder, Cassie gave her a hesitant smile before she slipped out into the dark night.
With Navar at her side, all things seemed possible.
