    “Really?” Charlie asked.

“Really, but you’ll most likely want to shave it.” Ty answered. “And you might even get some really sharp nails like Milly. And some pointy teeth like Daddy. But you know what the most important thing you have is?”

      “No, what?”

“That fiery red hair. That hair has been talked about for thousands of years. And you have it. It’s magical. Our people saw it coming for so long they wrote stories about it.”

“That’s what Mama says,” Charlie said.

      “She’s right.”

“And one day, I’m gonna help run our colony with Milly and Bonnie, and whoever is in there waiting to get out,” he said, pointing at Aunt Pearl’s belly.

      “That’s exactly right,” Ty said.

Without missing a beat, Charlie changed the subject. “Daddy?” he yelled.

      “What?” Jaime asked.

“Want to play chase with me?” Charlie asked.

“Chase? Why would I want to do that?” Jaime teased. “I mean, I can’t make you run from me anymore. You’re too brave. Unless… I do this!” Jaime sprouted his claws and opened his mouth to show his fangs to his son. Jaime jumped up and snarled at Charlie who squealed and laughed so hard he could barely run. Jaime let him get a good head start before he took out after him. When he caught him, they rolled on the grass, wrestling and laughing.

“Come play, Mama!” Charlie called to Ruby.

Ruby smiled. She looked over at Pearl. “Still think I was crazy to come out here in search of human sized bats?”

Pearl shook her head. “Thank goodness you did. You were just crazy enough, Ruby. Just crazy enough.”

      About the Author

My name is Sandra R Neeley. I write Paranormal, Fantasy, and SciFi Romances. Why, you may ask? Because who doesn't love a good romance, and the lack of reality in the story lines — because, well, normal is highly overrated, so Paranormal it is. I’m 55, I have two kids, one 33 and one 13(yes, God does have a sense of humor), one grandchild, one husband and a menagerie of animals. I love to cook and am a voracious reader, though since I started writing I don’t get as much time to read as I once did. I’m a homebody and prefer my writing/reading time to a crowd. I have had stories and fictional characters wandering around in my head for as long as I can remember. I’m a self-published author and I like it that way because I can decide what and when to write. I am by no means a formal, polished, properly structured individual and neither are my stories. But people seem to love the easy emotion and passion that flow from them. A bit of a warning though, there are some “triggers” in them that certain people should avoid. I’m a firm believer that you cannot have light without the dark. You cannot fully embrace the joy and elation that my people eventually find if you do not bear witness to their darkest hours as well. So please read the warnings supplied with each of the synopsis about my books before you buy them. I’ve got four series published at this time, Avaleigh’s Boys - PNR, Whispers From the Bayou - Fantasy PNR, Haven - SciFi Romance, and Riley’s Pride - PNR, several short stories, and much, much more to come. I’m always glad to hear from my readers, so feel free to look me up and say hello.
