Thank you so much for reading Pioneer Desire and for embracing another series!
As with all of my books, I greatly enjoyed the research for this book and the series. Fort Benton is not a fictitious town, unlike Bear Grass Springs in my other series. From Benton is as described in the novel, and it’s one of my favorite places to visit in Montana. One day, I will float the Missouri River and have a little bit of that experience of what it felt like to be on a steamboat!
There was a powerful family in Fort Benton that ran a powerful trading empire, run by the patriarch Isaac G. Baker. I loosely based the O’Rourke family and their store on him and his business, although he did not have twelve children.
There was also a very powerful, popular Madam in Fort Benton. Again, I loosely based Madam Nora on her.
As for the Irish used in this short story, I did the best research I could and any mistakes are mine alone. Although a chuisle literally means my pulse, I also read it can mean my heartbeat, which I thought was more lyrical.
