He pulled her to her feet, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, her lips grazing his before they left the room. In the doorway, she turned and looked back at the bed where her children had been conceived. But all memories of Landon were gone, replaced by Rift.
Fate had brought them together and she was going to make sure nothing tore them apart.
Epilogue
“You look nice.” Belle stirred the pasta sauce as Katrina came into the kitchen.
“You don’t think it’s too much?” Katrina smoothed her hands over her purple skirt that she’d paired with a cream blouse and a pale mauve cardigan.
“I think it’s perfect.” Belle turned down the stove and wiped her hands as she approached her mom. “And I think Oscar is perfect, too.”
Katrina blushed, her cheeks tinged with pink as she smothered a smile. “I didn’t think I’d ever fall for a man again. But Oscar is so kind and such good company.”
“You two are great together.” Belle hugged her mom, holding her tight as she fought back tears of happiness. “We’re so incredibly lucky.”
Katrina buried her face in Belle’s shoulder and sucked in a shuddering breath. “I was thinking about it while I got dressed. How after everything Reggie did, all the bad stuff, if it wasn’t for him being my brother, we would never have wound up here in Wishing Moon Bay.”
“Are you happy we moved?” Belle and her family had finally moved to Wishing Moon Bay two weeks ago. Preparing for the move had been emotionally and physically exhausting. However, the first night in their new house, which Rift had bought for them all to live in, had felt as if they had come home. There was no other way she could describe it.
“This is the best thing we’ve ever done.” Katrina lifted her head and glanced out of the kitchen window. “And the kids are so happy.”
Belle slid her arm around her mom’s shoulder as she turned to look out of the window, too. Rosie and Jack were helping Rift build a treehouse in the backyard that backed onto a small, wooded area which in turn led to a trail that led straight into the mountains.
Perfect for a snow leopard to go for a run whenever he wanted. Plus, it was ideal for hiking with two young children. Belle was also getting used to the idea that Rosie and Jack could go exploring on their own if Rift was home. They had a sense of freedom even though Rift could keep tabs on them at all times.
“And we’re happy.” Belle smiled down at her mom. “I don’t think I say it enough, but I love you, Mom.”
“I love you, too, Belle. And I’m so very proud of you.”
“We did okay, didn’t we?” Belle grinned broadly.
There was only one nagging worry in her mind. Rift didn’t speak of it often, but she knew he was worried about Ivan. Reggie might have brought Belle and Katrina to Wishing Moon Bay. But his actions had also cause Ivan pain, pain that he tried to hide.
She only hoped he might one day heal. Perhaps if he too found his mate, that healing might begin.
If only finding a mate was that simple.
