Chapter Thirty-Four
I CAME OUT OF THE DREAM NONE TOO GENTLY. Coughing up a small pond, water leaked from my nostrils as I grabbed a sheet off the bed and wiped my face. Pushing my sopping wet hair out of my eyes, I stopped in mid-motion as the sounds and sights around me came rushing in.
No!
My heart threatened to stop altogether. I almost wished it had. Anything would have felt better than it breaking into a million pieces. I vaguely recalled setting my sgian-dubh, which I had in a death grip, next to the lamp on my bedside table. Standing up on autopilot, I walked over to the window and pulled the curtain back so I could look out. Cars swarmed the streets, horns honked, people on the corner talked loudly, and I could hear a television blaring through the wall from an apartment next door.
I walked into the bathroom and looked at my reflection in the large mirror hanging over the sink. I still had a faded bruise on my cheek and an almost-healed scar above my heart. Too bad my inner scars wouldn’t heal that fast. My heart constricted when I thought of the night I had just spent with Aldwin, of all the things I never got to tell him, and how the night we had just shared had really happened a hundred years ago.
Never again would I allow myself to love. Never again would I allow myself to trust. The only friend I had trusted tried to kill me, and the only man I had ever loved was ripped from me by the fates. I wasn’t going to let fate control my destiny any longer… fate could kiss my ass.
From here on out, I would make my own destiny.
Don't worry! The next book in the Time Warper Series releases on November 24, 2015.
Three months after Sage Hannigan time warps a hundred years into the past and saves the future, she is still trying to come to grips with all the she has gained… and all that she has lost.
All of her searching hasn't turned up the Cerberus Society or any creatures of the night, and she's beginning to wonder if she's gone crazy after all. The only things keeping her grounded are her sparring sessions with Matt and her weekly ritual of scouring the city for lowlifes to kick the crap out of, and even that can't keep her dreams free of the heartache and bittersweet memories she has come to loathe and… to cherish.
When blasts from the past—good, bad, and evil—come knocking on her door, will she be able to do what she has to even if it means having her barely healing heart ripped to shreds?
