The piercing of the nose was less painful than the piercing of the labial lips. Maddy uttered a short groan when the inside of her nose was pierced. A golden ring was placed through the hole. The ring was large enough to rest on her upper lip. The man placed an asbestos sheet between Maddy's upper lip and the ring and soldered its ends closed.
