      END

      Author’s Note

This marks the end of our journey through the swamp. It took the better part of two years to make it to the other side, but there is no one else with whom I would’ve rather made the journey. The Family Values Trilogy is my darkest material to date, and I understand that it isn’t for everyone. Many of my readers have commented that while they love my books, the violence portrayed in these books is too much for them.

      I completely understand that.

For me, however, writing this series has been somewhat of a cathartic experience. I’ve taken many of my greatest fears related to raising my three girls and wrapped it up in these books with a supernatural twist: not being able to have children in the first place, then having children who go missing, children who are whisked away in the dead of night, children who are harmed or even worse.

As with all my writing, this and the other books in the series are entirely fictional, but my fears, hopes, ideas, and philosophy can be combed from between the lines of text and dialogue.

Some of my more astute readers will recognize a cross-over in the FVT with my other novels: NYPD Detective Hugh Freeman first appears in Sacred Heart Orphanage, and then briefly in Shores of the Marrow. Seth Parsons plays similar roles in both Daughter and Shores of the Marrow. And the mention of the Marrow in multiple texts, well, that’s self-explanatory, isn’t it?

I didn’t set out with the intention of bringing all of my Horror series’ together (The Haunted, Family Values Trilogy, and Insatiable), it just happened naturally. But I’m glad it worked out this way in the end; it offers me a venue to continue writing about my favorite characters in different settings. Which means, in the not too distant future, you might see a book on your digital shelf staring Elloree Sheriff Liam Lancaster, Askergan County Deputy Andrew Coggins, and ghost hunter (not-so) extraordinaire Cal Godfrey. A new series, perhaps?

As always, I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my work. People often ask me what which of my books is my favorite, and my answer is always the same: my most recent one. As with every skill and every profession, improvement over time is not just expected, but mandatory.

I hope to answer the same way until my quiddity passes over to the Marrow. And after 20 books to my name, I think the future looks bright.

Please consider writing a quick review on Amazon for Daughter. Reviews help readers find new authors, and I want to be that guy. As an independently published author, I lack the massive marketing budget of the big publishing houses who can take out full-page spreads in the New York Times. So tell a friend about my books, leave a review, ask your local library to carry them. Any and all help is appreciated.

If you have any comments about this book or any of my other books, or just want to chat, head on over to my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/authorpatricklogan.

You keep reading, I’ll keep writing.

      Best,

      Patrick
