“Lamisi, will you be my girlfriend?”

The proposal set off fireworks in her body. “Yes, Blaise.”

      He kissed her forehead.

      “My mountain woman.”

Her smile was wide with pleasure and teasing. “My old man.”

“I’ll never live that down, will I?”

      “Nope.”

Because he would always be hers.

      EPILOGUE

Their section of the crowd went ballistic with cheering and hooting when Lamisi’s name was announced to collect her PhD. Blaise couldn’t be any prouder of her. His yells as she walked across the stage carried over the shouts of the other people who loved her.

When they’d first started dating, her family had invited him into their lives with open arms. It’d been much easier for them to accept him than it had been for Lamisi. His family, his mother especially, had loved her.

The past year had been a fast-paced whirlwind of incredible shared experiences.

They’d done their traditional Islamic wedding last month and registered at the courts to finalize it.

His career had shot off like a missile into the stratosphere.

Not only had the Francophone countries loved his French mixed music, it had caught fire everywhere. He’d approved collaboration requests from top musicians he’d only admired from afar.

Would any of it have happened if Lamisi hadn’t been by his side? Yes, but it had been so much better with her in his life.

Blaise looked forward to the concert tour he had lined up. Lamisi would join him for the full three months on the road. When they got back, they’d take a couple of weeks to relax before she started her job as a lecturer at the university. She’d also spoken to a few embassies about doing translation work for them when they needed it.

At the close of the ceremony, her entourage of supporters went to meet her at the designated area.

As soon as she spotted him, her black gown billowed as she ran into his arms. He lifted her and spun her around, never wanting to let his wife go. Her clinging arms around his shoulders indicated the same.

He placed her on her feet. “I’m so proud of you, Lamisi. I love you so much.”

      “I love you, too, Blaise.”

They gazed into each other’s eyes, promises of the intimacies they’d share later raging. Their families must’ve decided that they’d had more than enough time to themselves and surrounded Lamisi to get in their congratulations.

Blaise had no problem sharing her. In the end, his mountain woman would go home with him.
