Nahum nodded solemnly. “It will be noted in her record.”
Before Jerry could thank him or offer to polish Nahum’s sandals for granting him extra time to spend with Kimber, Jerry was sent into a whirling vortex that blurred time and space.
He awoke at the touch of a droplet on his cheek.
When he opened his eyes, he saw the face of his beloved. Although her eyes were puffy and red, she was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen.
“Oh, Jerry,” she cried, hugging him to her breast. “I thought you had left me for good.”
He reached up and cupped her delicate face in his hands. She leaned into his touch and kissed the palm of his hand.
Jerry urged her closer. Heedless of the searing pain in his midsection, he raised up to touch his lips to hers. The kiss was tender and sincere, and through it he sought to let her know that he would never leave her again.
When they parted and he relaxed back against her lap, he told her, “Believe me, Kimber, I will be with you until the end of time.”
“I believe you,” she said, her voice catching in her throat.
And he knew she did. This time, they would be free to love each other without the shadow of Gerald hanging over them.
“I love you,” he told her, “and if I have to, I will spend the next fifty years trying to persuade you to marry me.”
Kimber smiled down at him, and she looked absolutely luminous as she kissed him again.
Then, with a small shake of her head, she asked, “Who am I to argue about a marriage made in heaven?”
