    “Cah, Cah!”

“You’re being summoned, big brother,” Selena said with a lazy smile as her daughter crawled towards Micah and Harry across the blanket.

Micah sat up and held out his arms to the chubby little girl, who stopped to study the contents of everybody’s plates, and yank Algie’s dummy out of his mouth, on the way. Clicking his tongue against his teeth, Micah shook his head as she grabbed his outstretched hand and hauled herself to her feet. “That’s not nice, Butterball,” he admonished, picking her up and blowing raspberries into the soft skin of her neck.

“Micah.” Selena’s voice held a note of warning.

“What?” Micah replied, nibbling on the baby’s forearm as she giggled hysterically. “I can’t help it. She is a little Butterball.”

“I think Mum’s concerned you’re going to give her a complex if you don’t use her given name,” Harry said wryly.

Micah wrinkled his nose. “I told you, I refuse to call my beautiful Princess that evil excuse for a name you landed her with.” His gaze flitted between Sarah and Selena. “What is it with you people? Whatever happened to Bob and Jane, or Janet and John? I can hear the sniggers when the two of them are at the altar now.” He put on a solemn voice and intoned, “Do you, Algernon, take Clementine.” He shuddered at the thought.

“It’s my grandmother’s name,” Selena said for the hundredth time since the baby’s birth.

“And what name did your grandmother use, huh, huh?” Micah questioned. Selena merely stared back at him, not bothering to answer because she knew he knew full well her grandmother had hated the name and insisted on being called by her middle name, Rose. Micah nodded, feeling smug. “Exactly.”

Harry wrapped his arms around Micah and his sister, and used his weight to take them all to the ground. “You know that one day she will kill you, and I won’t be able to help because you’ll deserve it.”

“I know,” Micah chuckled, lifting Clem into the air and revelling in the sound of her laughter. “But it’s fun.”

“You’re a mean man.” Harry pressed a kiss to Micah’s temple and reached out for his sister’s chubby fingers. “You’re going to get into a lot of trouble with this big brother of yours, Clem. But luckily you have me to keep you both on the straight and narrow.”

“Ahem,” Micah harrumphed. “Don’t listen to him, Butterball. He likes trouble just as much as we do.”

“And whose fault is that?” Harry raised an eyebrow and leaned in to kiss Micah hard on the lips. “You’re a bad influence.”

      “You love my influence.”

      “Maybe a little.”

Micah set a struggling Clementine onto the blanket and shook his head fondly as she crawled off, determined to explore every inch of the village green. He snuggled into Harry’s embrace and breathed in his scent. A heady mix of the woodsy cologne he favoured, fresh country air and sweat. God, how he loved this man. He sighed heavily and wondered if the anger at the years they had missed would ever leave him. It was doubtful, and there were times when he spent more than a few minutes working out intricate ways to take his revenge on the bastard who’d controlled Harry’s life for so long. He gave his head a mental shake. No, nothing he could do would make any difference to Harry’s father—nothing that was apart from making sure he spent the rest of their lives loving each other, despite everything that had been done to keep them apart.

“I love you,” Harry whispered against his hair.

Micah smiled and snuggled in even closer. Nope… loving Harry wasn’t going to be a problem at all.

      About the Author

I live in a small seaside town just outside London, on the South coast of Essex, England that boasts the longest pier in the world; where I am ordered around by two precocious children and a dog who thinks she's the boss of me.

I've been writing seriously for three years now and love giving voice to the characters warring to be heard in my head, and am currently petitioning for more hours in the day, because I never seem to have enough of them.

I like nothing more than bringing together two people in interesting and sometimes bizarre ways, and hope that the readers enjoy the characters' journey as much as they and I do.
