“Absolutely,” he murmured, his lips brushing mine. “With wings, Evangeline. Because if we’re staying here, we can keep our feathers.”
My heart skipped a beat, elation warming my blood. I’d missed flying more than anything in my existence, and I knew Xai felt the same. “But what about the Dark Provenance and our responsibilities on Earth?”
“Something tells me we’re expected to do both,” he replied, laying me on his bed, his body settling over mine. “But with far more visits up here.” He went to his elbows on either side of my head, his gaze serious. “We could say no, love. I can’t say what will happen if we do, but it is one of the paths.”
“Say no to everything and just run away to be together?” I whispered. “Actually retire, you mean?”
“Yes,” he replied just as softly. “We could go wherever you wanted, hide from everyone and everything, and be us. Only us.”
“It’s tempting,” I admitted.
“It is.”
“And wrong,” I added.
“It is,” he repeated.
I sighed, hating all this destiny crap. “Why can’t the demons and angels just play nice and be friends?”
“Because that would be boring.”
Well, that was true. I drew my hand along his feathers, luxuriating in their silky texture. “I do like you in this form.”
“Naked?”
“And with wings.” I smiled, fondling the strength of him. “If we stay, could we get a place together outside of the city? One where your mother can’t just drop by when I’m naked?” It was a reasonable concern since it had happened twice now.
“A place like our home in the mountains, you mean?”
I nodded. “With an arsenal and a place for sparring.”
Amusement flitted through his expression. “Foreplay is one of my favorite pastimes.”
“I know.” My lips tilted to match his. “I’ll need a room for my knives.”
“Now you’re just trying to seduce me,” he murmured.
I feigned innocence. “It’s a fair request. I need somewhere to train and perfect my techniques.”
He groaned, his lips falling to my neck. “Evangeline,” he growled.
“What? You know how much I love practicing my throws.”
He bit my pulse, hard, causing me to arch into him, more than ready for his brand of loving.
“Is that a yes?” I whispered. “To us procuring our own place?” His home was nice, but I would prefer to have one that I could call ours, something we never needed, thanks to living on Earth all this time.
“Yes,” he said harshly, his lips possessing mine. “Yes to it all, Evangeline.”
“For eternity?”
“For eternity.”
A vow.

What’s Next
Son of Chaos is the second book in the Dark Provenance series. Books three through seven will feature other characters from the Dark Provenance universe as they battle the unbalance threatening the realms.
Due to the way time works in this series, books three through seven will mostly take place during Son of Chaos. This will allow us to explore all the complicated relationships and see how they intertwine with one another. Each novel will feature its own conflict and provide unique insights that will lead us to the final novel(s) in the series.
