"Good enough," Prince said, smiling. "Now, what do you say we return to the party? I know your father has arranged some really terrific desserts. And those kids need my 'grandmotherly' spoiling."
"Sounds good to me," Sasha said.
Ahead of them the sky brightened still more as the setting sun came into view, though their motion made it appear that the sun was rising.
Then they were out of the night, passing out over the ocean and beginning a long turn back toward the coast and home.
Sasha was silent, content to let the virtual-reality scenario play out. The fake sunset view of the California coast was convincing and beautiful.
And in a few months she might be taking this journey for real.
Sasha's Future
Sasha is now a Jane Bond. Or perhaps a Wonder Woman. Her air car is not invisible, as Wonder Woman's is, but Anna Prince no doubt has something as stealthy as Wonder Woman's to loan her for missions.
But what missions? Ahh, well. I'm puzzling about that. Meanwhile, there are other tales of the immortal shapechangers already written to be put up here. This will include short stories and novelettes as well as books.
