Grimacing, I glanced down, my hope faltering once more as I realized I’d wasted hours and hours of her precious life reliving the past. I still wasn’t going to have enough time to save her—not without doing something drastic.
“Stop program,” I commanded, and immediately the beauty of Palacia dissolved away from me. Carrying Skylar from the hologram, I reentered my lab. Turning to the left, I followed the hallway into another room, eyes landing on the large glass pod I’d come for.
Releasing the latch, the lid slowly popped open with a swooshing sound and a foggy substance filled the air. Carefully, I laid Skylar’s body inside, pausing to press my lips to hers.
Another tear escaped, hitting her cheek. Forcing myself to stand, I stared down at her, my own heart feeling like it was shattering into a million pieces, but I wasn’t about to give up. Not yet.
“Activate cryogenics.”
The machine closed and I watched as the girl I loved—the light of my life—was frozen solid in front of me, suspending her life in time and space.
Slowly, I took my precious cargo back to the hologram. “Activate Palacia.” Putting her in the suite she’d dubbed her favorite, I placed my hand against the glass. “I love you, Skylar,” I whispered. “Hang on, because I’m coming to find you.”
