Gunner nodded. “I will do that.”
Luther nodded. “And good luck with your other problem.” He looked in Skeeter’s direction. “I hope the two of you can come to a compromise that you both can live with.” Luther then proceeded to his limo and got into the back seat.
When the driver pulled away, they watched him. Gunner shook his head as the taillights of the limo turned the corner. “What the hell were you thinking bringing that man here to reach out to Ivy?” Gunner turned to ask Skeeter.
Skeeter shrugged. “I didn’t really have a choice. He called in a favor from the Rangers and as I knew you guys, I got elected to bring him here.”
Gunner shook his head. “You used to know better than that.”
Skeeter nodded. “I used to know a whole lot of things. Then life got in the way and I lost my way. Gunner, I really need to come back, if nothing else to get my head set back on straight. I’ve lived through some dirty events I never thought was real. The cartel I was chasing was into some bad shit. People like the Deckers were only the tip of the iceberg and there was so much hidden under the surface, the whole thing just made me sick of the life I’m living.”
“I can imagine.” Gunner nodded. “The more stories Ivy told us the worse it got. Did you know they sold her or would have sold her to the skin game at fifteen years old?”
“That was brought up at the trial. That and so much more,” Skeeter assured him. “They got life imprisonment but within three days inside the joint, they were both dead. They had their throats slit by the cartel.”
“Now that about breaks my heart,” Gunner muttered. “What happened to Danny?”
“He made a deal for his life. As he was a minor up until the trial, they allowed him to enter Witsec for more info about his parents. He gave the FBI and the Rangers everything he knew. John Bell was going to bring Ivy in for questioning but Roger Caymen put a stop to that. He told John’s boss that if he went after her, he would make it his mission in life to block everything he ever had even a hint of. When his boss investigated the charges, he found John had been an overzealous agent and busted him down to an office boy. Caymen has the political clout to make or break a person’s career and John Bell found that out the hard way.”
Gunner grinned. “Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy huh?”
“Oh yeah, he hates you too,” Skeeter told him. “You and the guys all but threw him out, without his prize.”
“Well, we can catch up later my friend.” Gunner slapped him on the shoulder. “We’re waiting for news on Dani and I’m hoping she’s awake by now.”
They entered the clubhouse and everyone was still waiting. Tension was growing and the men looked from Skeeter to Gypsy.
Gunner ignored the tension and asked, “Has any word come down the line yet?”
Just then, a door opened down the hall and Thor came out.
He walked over to the bar without saying a word. Thor poured himself a shot of whiskey and gulped it down in one shot. Then he turned and addressed the whole club, “The blood transfusion helped. She’s coming around. She woke up some but fell asleep again. Just now, she woke up again and is lucid. She’s going to be okay. Patriot and the nurse think she’s going to be just fine.”
“Oh thank god,” Owen whispered. He looked at his sons and smiled. “At least, we’ll get a chance to know her now.”
“If she lets us,” Spirit commented.
“Can I make a suggestion?” Thor asked as he poured himself another drink.
“And what would that be?” Spirit asked.
“Just don’t push her. Don’t tell her what her dad was like because right now, she shouldn’t hear anything about him.” He nodded. “In case you didn’t know it, her mom was killed four months ago by Hellspawn. Her pain from that is still very real and raw for her. It’s still an open wound. I think you should know Janet never told her anything about her dad. Not what he did to her, not about why she left him either. She never even told her his name. Now everyone knows when a family splits up like they did, the mom usually runs the dad into the ground but Janet never did that. So I suggest you wait until Dani asks before you talk about Jethro.” Thor shrugged his broad shoulders “And I think she will ask one day. He was a man, a young and stupid man. He was human and he made mistakes. She can probably forgive him for that but if you start bashing her mom, she’ll shut you down fast and she will not forgive you. She won’t even listen. She loved her mother.”
Owen looked over at his sons and nodded. “We can agree to that.”
“We will however, let her know that we’ve been looking for her since she and her mom walked away twenty two years ago though,” Reggie spoke out.
“As long as you don’t blame her mom for what happened, that’s fine. She’s been feeling left outside, always looking for what a family should be all her life.” Thor nodded. “Just give her time to get used to the idea of having a family before you start putting pressure on her.”
“What does she want to do about Hellspawn?” Gunner wanted to know.
“Do you have him in custody?” Thor looked over at him.
“Yeah we do. He’d just murdered the three men they brought back with them and had gotten his hands on the stones again.”
Gypsy stood and tossed the eight bags on the table.
Thor groaned and said, “What the fuck? Is there no escape from those damn stones? She’s not going to like this.”
“Well, when this is finally over, she can take them to a bridge over the Mississippi river and drop them over the edge,” Cobra suggested. “Hellspawn can go to his grave with that knowledge. It will drive him absolutely over the edge. He’ll go to hell knowing the stones are at the bottom of the river just lying there waiting for the next sucker willing to go after them.”
Thor nodded. “He’ll go to his death knowing someone else will win the prize he sought out for so long. Maybe a guy fishing off the bridge will being up a trout with a ruby in his belly. Someone else is going to get the money he sold his soul for or the river makes the jewels its secret for who knows how long? And ain’t that a kick in the ass?” Thor pushed himself away from the bar and walked back down to the Infirmary.
Closing the door behind him, he went over to her bed and sat down in the chair next to it. Gently taking her hand, he raised it to his lips and kissed her fingers gently. “I got you sweetheart. I got your back. Now and forever.”
Dani gently opened her eyes and smiled. “I got your back too, big guy. Now and forever, I got your back too.”
“Sleep now darlin.” Thor kissed her hand. “You got people waiting on your recovery. You got family out there waiting to finally meet you.”
Dani closed her eyes and whispered, “Tell me something will you?”
“If I can, I will.”
“Are they good people?” she whispered. “I never knew my dad but are his people good people?”
“Yeah baby, they are good people.” Thor smiled gently. “They’ve been searching for you the same as the club has since your mom walked out. We just didn’t look hard enough and that’s on us, not on you or your mom. We failed you then, but we’re not letting you go again.”
“I’m not going anywhere.” She smiled. “I don’t know what happened between my parents and that’s their business. Just don’t ever hit me or cheat on me.”
“I would never do either of those things to you. I hope you know that,” Thor told her calmly.
“I do know that.” She lifted her hand and cupped his face. “I hope you know I would never do that to you either. I belong to you and you alone.”
“Damn right you do. The same goes for me as I belong to you and you alone.” Thor leaned forward and brushed her lips with his.
Dani moaned and grabbed his head, trying to bring him much closer. The kiss deepened and when they broke apart, her heart was pounding in her chest.
“Mine.” Thor growled as he looked into her eyes.
“Yours.” Dani smiled.

I live in a small town (population495) in Wisconsin. From my deck, I can see the Mississippi River on one side and the bluffs, where eagles live and nest on the other side. I live with my husband Dave and dog Buddy. My two children are grown and I have two grandchildren. I love to watch people and that has helped me with my writing. I often use people I watch as characters in my books and I always try to give my characters some of my own values and habits.
I love to create characters and put them in a troubling situation then sit back and let them do all the work. My characters surprise even me at times. At some point in the book, they take on a life of their own and the twists and turns they create becomes the story. Of all the stories I could write I found I like mystery/thrillers the best. I like to keep my readers guessing until the very end of the book.
