Instantly, Eija complied. The rifle clattered to the forest floor.
He cackled in her ear. “How lucky is this? You just literally stepped right into my arms!”
Eija felt her skin crawl as his voice grated on her nerves. He literally stunk of filth, sweat and she did not want to know what else.
A branch snapped from somewhere in the woods.
Bullet tucked her closer and pulled her back further in from the path as he raised a hand up and smothered her mouth.
The stink and grime of his hand made her want to throw up.
“Stay quiet or get a knife through your lungs, bitch,” he whispered lowly into her ear. He then seemed to wait as he remained statue still.
Eija didn’t know if she could stand this for very long. She was feeling weak by the overly tight hold around her neck and her air being cut off by his hand smothering nearly her whole face. She slowly lowered her fingers down and he didn’t seem to notice. Finally, she had her fingers on what she needed.
They both could now hear louder sounds.
All the sudden, there was movement on the path... As two figures ran by.
Wolf and Apollo.
Bullet’s body tensed. He went so rigid, he might as well have been turned to stone.
This was the moment when Eija chose to make her move. Lowering her head all the way forward until her chin met her chest, she then flung it back hard while at the same time, stomping on his foot with all her might.
He had been taken totally off guard, as his nose must have burst open with the head butt and blood splattered on her before she could get way. By this time, she had her knife in a good grip and shot it backwards to plunge into his shoulder.
Bullet let out a scream as he stumbled back.
Eija took off like a lightning bolt back onto the path. As she moved, she didn’t even look back, but she did not have to. She heard him coming for her. She hoped he would keep coming too. Eija instantly had her own plan.
He was slower than her for some reason and he now, did not seem to care if he was heard by anyone else. Growling with rage and yelling, “You fucking bitch! I am going to literally slit you open!”
Getting to the spot she’d spotted before, she ducked into the opening between the bushes and a tree.
Huffing and puffing could be heard from right behind her as she rounded the tree and made her way in a full circle, back up further on the path. Back from where she just came.
There, she waited, right out in the open.
After a long moment, she heard a frustrated string of curses coming closer then Bullet stepped out. She stayed right where she was.
Bullet turned his head to look down the path, then back up the path to where she still stood. “I am so fucking tired of chasing you, little Eija. I am fucking done with it. Not even the thought of having you again would make it worth all this shi—” His breath was cut off as a knife landed into his throat.
Eija had launched that knife.
Howling with pain, Bullet tore it from his neck.
Disappointed when she didn’t see any blood spurting out, Eija knew she hadn’t hit the main artery there.
Down the path and facing her was now a literal ghoul. Eyes red and bulging from his face. Blood splattered all the way down from his nose to his shirt... along with his growling and now, incoherent cursing... Bullet looked like something from a horror movie.
She raised her gun, as he did the same.
“Eija!” a shout reached her ears.
She knew who it was, but didn’t dare pause as it could save his life and hers. She pulled the trigger as Bullet did the very same. Hers was faster apparently, as it knocked his aim off.
Feeling the graze of his bullet, passing alongside her neck, she barely flinched. Then she grabbed the final part of her battle plan and pulled the pin. Tossing it next to Bullet, as he screamed from the wound in his chest from her bullet, she then turned and ran toward Wolf’s voice...
After about ten feet, she saw Apollo and yelled, “Fire in the—”
Someone dove for her and tossed her into the bush line.
The breath was knocked from her as something heavy landed on top of her. Gasping for air, she heard the grenade go off.
“Dammit, woman!” Wolf raised his body up from of hers. He stared at her neck and sucked his breath in.
“It’s just a graze, Wolf,” she muttered.
“Good God almighty!” Apollo shouted from far off.
Rising up, Eija pushed at Wolf’s chest.
Grabbing her, he shook his head. “You are not going anywhere.”
“Well, I think she’ll be fairly safe,” Apollo now spoke from above them.
They both peered up at him.
“Joel, Adam and Bullet are now a special blend, all over the forest...As wolf food! May his foul, evil soul rest in hell, Amen. Too bad, he won’t get... a headstone!” He laughed uproariously at his own jokes.
Turning her gaze up to Wolf, Eija waited for his reaction.
Finally, Wolf lowered his face to look at her. “Damn, woman, remind me to never piss you off.”
Apollo laughed. “Yeah, and you tend to piss off just about everyone too. So be careful... Wolfie has found his match! Better treat her right, man.” He then turned and looked up, his eyes widening. “Well, fuck a duck.”
Wolf rose up and grasped Eija by the arm to pull her up.
They both stood and made their way to step out on the path.
A lone wolf stood there, staring at them. Magnificent and majestic. Large, muscled and definitely an Alpha. He seemed to focus on the man called Wolf.
Their eyes locked as silence fell over the forest.
Eija simply stared back and forth at the Wolf and the man.
Wolf, the man gave the canine a slow nod.
The actual wolf lowered his head a bit then raised it up. Abruptly, he then turned to disappear into the woods.
“Well, that wasn’t weird and spooky at all, was it?” Apollo said his voice full of awe.
Eija stared up at her Wolf. “What was that?”
Wolf peered down at her. “I was back here in the thick part of these woods, about three years ago. I came up on a young wolf who had his leg trapped under a tree. I lifted it off. He got up and ran.” Shrugging, he seemed to dismiss the whole thing as he turned to her. “And you... you think you’re Laura fucking Kroft or some shit?” He raised his voice.
Blinking her eyes, she shrugged. “No, I am Eija Savage... My father’s daughter.”
Shaking his head, Wolf grabbed her up and lifted her off the ground. To meet her face with his. “You will soon be Eija Savage Grant, Angus’ wife.” He crushed her lips with his.

I live in a small town (population495) in Wisconsin. From my deck, I can see the Mississippi River on one side and the bluffs, where eagles live and nest on the other side. I live with my husband Dave and dog Buddy. My two children are grown and I have two grandchildren. I love to watch people and that has helped me with my writing. I often use people I watch as characters in my books and I always try to give my characters some of my own values and habits.
I love to create characters and put them in a troubling situation then sit back and let them do all the work. My characters surprise even me at times. At some point in the book, they take on a life of their own and the twists and turns they create becomes the story. Of all the stories I could write I found I like mystery/thrillers the best. I like to keep my readers guessing until the very end of the book.
