He caught his breath. “Me, too. That gluten-free bakery I found put a rush on it for us.”
“Why did you do this?” Her voice held only curiosity.
He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. This was it. “I wanted not only to say it but show you that I love you.”
“You do?” Surprise lifted her voice.
“Yes. For some time now. But I didn’t know how to tell you.”
She smiled, staring at him. A serene look covered her face. “I’d say you figured it out. I can’t believe you went to so much trouble.” She stepped toward him. “I love you, too.”
His heart pounded like gloves against a speed bag at The Ring. She loved him. For some crazy reason, he wanted to stop and praise God for setting them up. He was clearly the perfect matchmaker.
Ray opened his arms, and Katie stepped close. He lowered his head and covered her lips with his. Contentment filled him, and he knew this was exactly where he wanted to spend the rest of his life—with Katie.
