Dearest Jolie,
I thought you might want to have this, since it was yours before Goethe stole it from you. I know that you said to take nothing, but I was compelled to hold on to us a little longer. I’m settled in Italy for now, but I miss you. I know our paths will cross again, so don’t be surprised.
Thank you for everything you did--past and present. You always were meant to be who you are now.

Jolie folded up the note before handing it, and the amulet, to him.
“Well, my love?”
“Place it in the safe, Jacques.”
“Is that what you really want, Jolie?”
“I’m not sure, but I can’t get rid of it just yet. This locket is a reminder of the past and who I’m not anymore, but it’s also a link to what made me who I am today.”
At the sound of running footsteps, they both glanced up. There stood Flynn, and he looked frazzled.
“What’s wrong?”
Immediately, he began stripping out of his blazer, gun, and badge.
“I have a situation.”
“They won’t let you return to work?” Jolie asked.
He shook his head. “No, I go back in a week. This is worse.”
Neither spoke.
After what they had just survived, how could that be true?
“Just tell us.”
He looked incredibly upset and began erratically pacing. “I just got a call from Philadelphia.” He paused long enough for that to sink in.
Jolie and Jacques froze at the name of the city. It was a place where they were banned from entering, or it meant death.
“It seems my old partner, Tommy Gress, has disappeared.”
“I’m so sorry, Flynn! What do they think happened to him,” Jolie asked.
“They don’t know, but they said he was last seen with a potential witness from a case.”
“Oh,” said Jolie, as the dread began to fill her. “I’m not going to like this part, am I, Flynn?”
Jacques crossed to them, ready for what was coming.
“I think you're going to hate it, Jolie,” he admitted, pulling her into his arms. Then, he held out his hand for Jacques.
Yes, it was going to be bad.
“Jolie, his new partner told me the witness’s name, and we know her.”
“Baby, the witness’s name was Zola Saran.”
She gasped. “What? Zola took Tommy?”
“Yes,” he replied. “I have no choice, baby. I have to catch a flight there. Tommy needs me to find him. I can’t let her kill him, and that’s going to be her plan.”
“Flynn!” Here’s where she panicked and freaked out. She pulled away to stare up into his blue eyes. “That’s exactly what she wants. It’s the only reason why she’d use her real name in the first place. Zola wants to draw you there.”
“Yeah, baby. I know, but what choice do I have? If I don’t call her bluff, she’s going to cut him into pieces and mail him here to torment us.”
She knew he was right.
“Then she’s going to show up here. We all know she can access this house. At least in Philly, I can cut her off at the pass. The family will be safe.”
Yeah, and Jolie would be too. She was his number one priority, and then came saving Tommy Gress’s life.
“Flynn, please,” she whispered, being pulled back into his arms. As she buried her face in his neck, Jolie stole that one last whiff of his cologne.
“I love you,” he whispered, lifting her chin. Gently, Flynn kissed her. “I’ll be back.”
Jolie wanted to be sick. “Please don’t go. Please don’t leave me, Flynn.”
“I have to go, Jolie. I have no choice.”
She wanted to die inside.
There was no doubt in her mind.
She was going to lose Flynn.
