“You think you’ll be able to do it?” Ruby asked.
“I don’t think I have any choice.”
Pulling into the parking lot, Aunt Mika told us, “I think you always have a choice.” She pointed at Jimmy standing just next to her parking space. “In fact, I think the boy has made his choice.”
Aunt Mika parked the car. Jimmy hopped to my side of the car and opened my door. Jimmy reached in with his hand and helped me out of the car.
“Jimmy, what are you doing here?” I asked. “Our moms said…”
“I thought about what our moms said and I’ve decided they are crazy! The best way for our families to work together is if we are together. Remember, Romeo and Juliet’s families didn’t like each other.”
Looking him in the eyes I said, “Yeah, but they both died at the end of that story…”
“Oh, I really should have read the whole thing!” Jimmy said. He shrugged. “Still it was too slow for me, no vampires or weretigers or Glitters.”
“But….”
He leaned in and kissed me on the cheek.
“I guess we’ll figure something out,” I sighed.
Ms. Anna appeared next to us. “How sweet,” she said. She looked at us. “Better figure out something really fast. I feel some more trouble is on the way…”
Truthfully, I didn’t know who I should be more afraid of, my mom, Jimmy’s mom or the incoming supernatural trouble. I guess I’d find out soon enough.
