“We have your back, you know,” Caroline said, reaching out to pat his arm again. He smiled and turned his arm over to catch her hand in his and squeezed it lightly.
“I guess I still have a bit of trouble knowing that. After all that mess with my old unit, and then the whole thing with ex-chief Beckett…” He shook his head and dragged in a shaky breath. “Thanks. It means a lot to me.”
“You’re my partner. You got me into all this mess when you offered me that internship. I’m not going to let you out of this so easy.” Caroline grinned at him
“Well. I guess I have to stick around for a while then, Sunshine.” Darien grinned. “If you’re going to insist on it.”
“I absolutely will,” she said.

I wrote this one in a bit of a fuzzy haze. The first draft rolled out of my fingers in about three days, but without Margaret and Stuart it would be a pretty awful read, completely full of inconsistencies and plot holes everywhere! Thank goodness I have you guys!
