“What about Jung’s employer? Who was he working for?” She didn’t have a right to that information, but she wanted to know, even if there was nothing she could do with it.
“That is still being looked into.” And from Sonny’s tone, Sandra would get no more info.
So she just nodded again. “You know that it’s better to warn people before the bad guys find them, right? You can’t apologize to a corpse.” It would have been satisfying to sit up straight and tell Sonny off, but Sandra was too tired and too hurt to do more than speak sternly.
“Goodbye, Sandra.” Sonny left without acknowledging the question.
Derek looked at the door as it clicked shut. He whistled through his teeth. “The Sector’s a piece of work, isn’t it?”
“It’s in the past.” And that was where it would stay. She was home now, with the person who mattered most to her. “Want to join me in bed?” she asked. If she was very careful, she thought she could make enough room for Derek to lay down. “It’ll be a squeeze, so you’ll need to hold me.”
He didn’t need to be told twice. It took a little more maneuvering than intended, and Sandra cursed as she stretched her wound a little too far. But after that, she was curled into Derek’s side, breathing in his scent, and more comfortable than she thought possible.
She was home.
