“Let’s wait and see, Majesty.” The old man closed his eyes, deep in thought.
They didn’t have to wait long. Presently, a shimmering shape appeared at the center of the lake. A beautiful girl with long, pale hair floated to the surface. She drifted closer and closer to the lakeshore, bearing a long, silvery sword upon her chest.
When she was within a few feet of the shore, the hilt of the sword she carried glowed a faint blue-green for a moment. Then her eyes opened. They were a bright aquamarine. She rolled over in the water and held out the sword, hilt first, to the astonished king.
The old wizard wiped a tear from his eye. “Ahh, there you are. She offers the sword to you. Take it, Arthur. Eikis Calli Werr is yours.”
“Excaliwer? Excalibur?”
“Close enough,” said Merlin.
