    “I doubt that will be necessary,” Brutus quipped in return, “if my children take after their mother.” His features slowly waxed from the joy of mutual teasing to its former broodiness.

      “They will not be too much like me,” Thomasina earnestly assured him.

      “It would please me if they were exactly like you,” he told her softly.

      “Will you love me always, Tommi—always?”

      “Forever,” Thomasina breathed and drew his head to hers until their lips met and lingered, everything forgotten in their knowledge of the present and their hope in the future.
