Keeping his arms fixed firmly around her waist, Judd looked deep into her eyes as he uttered, “I’m so glad you’re here.”
“Me too.” Her eyes misted. “I’m so sorry about yesterday.”
A crooked grin tugged at his lips. “Me too. No more sushi.”
She laughed. “Zero sushi.”
His lips turned down, and there was a sliver of teasing in his blue grey eyes that were more brilliant than a clear summer sky. “Please don’t make me give up my jet.”
Laughter gurgled in her throat. “I’ll think about it,” she teased, “if you promise to get some dang limes for the sparkling water.”
“Done,” he boomed, flashing a dazzling smile. Then, his expression changed to one of apprehension.
Her mouth went dry. “What?”
“Have you been online?”
She scowled. “No, but I heard about the fiasco. Stupid media!”
His eyes narrowed. “I had my assistant do some digging. Andy Roberts was the one who tipped off the tabloids.”
Her jaw dropped. “What?” A slow-burning fury fumed through her. “That miserable lowdown slime bucket! If he were here, I’d slap him upside the head.”
He laughed. “Remind me not to get on your bad side.”
Before she could respond, the door opened, and Dominique stepped out. When she saw Whitney in Judd’s arms, she stopped, the corners of her lips turning down. Her dark eyes were cold and predatory as they assessed Whitney. In a flash, instinctual knowledge was transmitted to Whitney. Dominique was just as gorgeous in person as she’d been online, maybe even more so with her dark sheet of glossy hair and perfect figure. However, she was shallow and fragile, always so worried about trying to one-up her neighbor that she would never have any peace.
Whitney realized with a jolt that she was glad she was an ordinary girl from Laramie, Wyoming. Unlike Dominique, Whitney had the capacity to truly love and to be loved. She’d been blessed to reconnect with a wonderful man with whom she could build a future. This time, she wouldn’t overthink the situation but would stay right by Judd’s side, come what may.
There was something feline about Dominique as a silky smile draped her lips. “I don’t believe we’ve met,” she cooed in a sickly sweet cultured tone.
Judd released Whitney’s waist and caught hold of her hand, lacing his fingers through hers. “This is Whitney Fox,” he said proudly.
Dominique nodded. “Nice to meet you, Whitney.” She gave Judd a questioning look. “Will we be seeing more of Whitney?”
“You can count on it,” Whitney affirmed, looking Dominique in the eye.
Dominique harrumphed before sauntering away.
Whitney turned to Judd. “How in the heck did you ever manage to get saddled with that?”
“I assure you, it was a weak moment,” he laughed. “Very weak. But you can rest assured that I won’t be making that same mistake twice.”
“I want this to work,” Whitney said, her heart’s desire springing up.
His eyes caressed hers. “I know it’ll work.”
Those words were the sweetest music to her ears that she’d ever heard. Happiness wrapped a warm bubble around Whitney’s heart as the two shared an intimate smile.
“Now,” Judd said ceremoniously, “I’d like you to meet my daughter.”
A new chapter of Whitney’s life was unfolding, and she was ready to embrace it full force. “With pleasure!”

About Jennifer Youngblood
Jennifer loves reading and writing clean rom
ance. She believes that happily ever after is not just for stories. Jennifer enjoys interior design, rollerblading, clogging, jogging, and chocolate. In Jennifer’s opinion there are few ills that can’t be solved with a warm brownie and scoop of vanilla-bean ice cream.
Jennifer grew up in rural Alabama and loved living in a town where “everybody knows everybody.” Her love for writing began as a young teenager when she wrote stories for her high school English teacher to critique.
Jennifer has BA in English and Social Sciences from Brigham Young University where she served as Miss BYU Hawaii in 1989. Before becoming an author, she worked as the owner and editor of a monthly newspaper named The Senior Times.
She now lives in the Rocky Mountains with her family and spends her time writing and doing all of the wonderful things that make up the life of a busy wife and mother.
