“Gunward has gone to Sarek,” he said and looked enchantingly at Clarissa.

“But why?” I asked, stunned, and David glanced at me sharply.

“Because your mom ordered him there,” Adam said like it was the most obvious thing.

“Your mom knows exactly what will happen if you and Gunward meet. This is neither the right time nor the place for that. The most important thing is to get Marie better, right?” Adam grunted and leaped next to the sofa. He lifted Clarissa up and started to lead her to the stairs.

I looked after Adam, stunned. What had just happened? I was still a little bit confused. I could go to Senja, after all. And everything would be fine. We could get Marie back and I didn't have to worry about losing David. For the first time in weeks, I felt hope lifting its head inside of me. I hugged David tight, and pressed my face on his warm neck. I knew I had survived like a cat from the gate this time, but I didn't care. I hoped David would let it be, and we could focus on the trip together. I lifted my head and smiled at David.

      “We're going to Senja.”

      David smiled and nodded.

“We're going to Senja,” I repeated happily, and the knowledge of seeing my family and the home of my childhood for the first time in almost two hundred years filled me with enormous joy.

      Acknowledgements

First of all, a huge thanks to my family; Kimmo, Iida and Anna. I’m always surprised at your unconditional support and enormous patience. There were days when I almost drowned in my text and the only thing that kept me sane was the knowledge of you and the solid trust that you would throw me a life-saver, no matter what.

Special thank you to Jaana Lähdetie and Liisa Metsähonkala, the neurologists who literally saved my daughter’s life.

Thanks to Marie Godley for polishing the text. You have eyes like an eagle.

A very big thank you to Loni Kim, the proofreading wizard who always does the first proofreading of my manuscripts and in this case also the final one. I wish I could promise to learn from my mistakes, but I can’t as the naked truth is that I suck with grammar issues. So hopefully you’ll stick around to help me with my word challenges in the future too because I would be completely lost without you.

To Mark Blanchard who’s always ready to fix my messy texts. I can’t even think what I’d do without you!

To Eveliina Tommola from Viima Graphics for designing the fabulous cover and to Milla Säteri from the advertising company Magia for making my homepage and updating it. To Mirva Vainio-Ketola, for listening to my endless whining and helping me with my Microsoft Word problems. You saved my computer’s life when I wanted to throw it at the wall.

To Marjaana and Erkki Loiske. Thank you for having faith in me and for encouraging me to accomplish my dream, instead of only chasing it.

To all my friends for bearing with me when I hid myself behind the computer and didn’t answer your calls or if I did, all you got was some scrappy growling.

And of course to my mom, Carita Nurminen, sisters Tytti Rosenberg and Tiia Blomberg and to my brother Lauri Nurminen for never pressing, questioning or giving me a hard time for my choices and for always being there.

And finally, thanks to everyone I forgot to mention but should have...
