Her heart raced as she saw him walking across the parking lot. It was ridiculous. Why was she so…excited? It wasn’t like this gift was hers, or that she’d even use it. Maybe it was because she’d never worked so hard to get someone something that she considered to be perfect.
He was almost there and she didn’t want to be standing, peering at him. Of course it wasn’t like that would’ve been the first time. Ace knew she had a hard time holding in her emotions. When they didn’t see each other for a day or two, Joyelle might be a bit overly zealous and leap into his arms, wrap her legs around his waist and kiss him until she got what she wanted. And she always did too.
No matter how tempted she was to do the same right now, she needed to control herself. But she still greeted him at the door.
“Well if it isn’t the birthday boy,” she smiled.
Ace grumbled. “I thought I told you, I don’t celebrate my birthday.”
Joyelle shrugged and said, “That doesn’t mean I can’t.” She gave him a quick kiss and tried to step back. He held her firmly against him.
“Well, there is something I wouldn’t mind for my birthday.”
“Oh really? What is that?” she asked, knowing damn well what it was. The passion between them was undeniable. It was funny how well she’d adapted to little sleep. If anything, all this lovemaking was giving her more energy than ever before.
“I know how much you like it when I show you instead of tell you,” he winked.
Joyelle felt the heat building in her. Chill woman. Don’t blow your plans. Not now. Not after everything you went through to pull it off.
She looked into his eyes and said, “Hold that thought. Because I need your help first. Then I’m all yours.”
“Please don’t tell me you made me a birthday cake. I’ve already told you, you’re the only sweet I need.”
God I love this man. “No cake. No cookies. Just a large delivery in the back that I couldn’t pick up myself. I was going to try and struggle to get it in, but wanted to save my back for something more…fun.”
He gave her playful slap on her bottom and said, “Lead the way.”
She took his hand and led her out the back door and then stepped aside quickly, giving him a full view of his gift.
“What the hell!” he walked over and she could tell by his expression that he loved it. “It’s a 1950 Indian Chief Black Hawk.”
“It is,” she said proud of herself for being able to find one. Even though she knew nothing about motorcycles. It was old and definitely not as flashy like what Ace designs, but this one meant something to her, and hopefully to him.
After of a few minutes of watching him stroke and admire it, he returned to her and said, “You’re not serious are you?”
“Yes Ace. Happy birthday.”
He looked at her and said, “You hate bikes. Why get me one?”
“I did.”
“Why? Have you changed your mind and want to ride?” he asked.
She shook her head. “I’m not sure that will ever happen. But this one…well…it’s how we got together. I thought it would make a fitting gift.”
“Joyelle, it’s amazing. I love it. But damn, it’s…”
“Okay?”
He shook his head. “No. It’s perfect, just like you. I can’t believe you were even able to find one. I mean one for sale.”
“It took some work, and help from my friend Rylee and her boyfriend Nate, but working together, we pulled it off. Oh, in case you’re wondering, it runs. You can take it for a ride.”
Ace turned back to the motorcycle and stared at it for a few seconds. Then his attention was focused back on her. He scooped her up into his arms and said, “I love my gift, but there is something I love even more.”
She shot him a wicked grin. “What is that?”
“You. I love you my beautiful, funny, and totally unpredictable Joyelle.”
“I love you too my handsome birthday boy. Now what do you say you carry me up stairs and let me give you your birthday”
“Dessert?” he teased.
She snickered. “Oh, you do have a sweet tooth for certain types of dessert.”
“When it comes to you, I’ll never get enough.”
As he carried her upstairs, she knew he loved his gift. But she was over joyed to know, he loved her more.
