This is a book of practical magick. By practical magick I mean the use of magical and psychic tools to cause and observe real changes in your environment. Quite a few books on magick spend little or no time on these subjects, and it is my intent to remedy this situation both for the magical community, and for anyone interested in exploring psychic and paranormal phenomena. This book represents the most complete exploration of practical magical and psychic tools that has ever been presented under one cover. What's more, I have dispensed with many of the complicated procedures that so often accompany these sorts of works, directly and honestly presenting you with the simplest techniques that you need in order to get results, and giving you just a minimum of my own personal philosophy.
When I first became interested in the dark and mysterious world of magick, psychic phenomena, and the paranormal, I was twelve years old. At that time, what interested me was developing and using magick power. I wanted to be able to create noticeable changes in the world around me with unseen forces. I wanted to create miracles. I wanted psychic powers. I eagerly consumed hundreds of books, but at best only received incomplete instructions on how to actually accomplish anything miraculous. In fact, I often read a lot more philosophy than instruction, even in books claiming to be practical in their approach. I attended dozens of workshops on psychic subjects, and found much the same problem. I became a member of several occult organizations, but there I still received little instruction on the practical development of useable power. In fact, much of the magical community seems to turn its nose up at psychic exploration and practical magick, either thinking it is beneath them or that it is all just a bunch of nonsense. Instead, many in the magical community seem much more interested in philosophy and religion. Many so-called magicians don't really seem to believe in magick at all. It's a very strange phenomenon in the community. You may find yourself judged harshly by your peers if you admit that you are even interested psychic powers, as silly as this sounds.
But it is all fascinating, and I have found it to be neither nonsense nor beneath me. So, remember that I am on your side, no matter what anyone else says. We’ve all certainly heard stories like the following of strange, unexplainable experiences:
A young businessman feels an incomprehensible fear in his gut when he is about to board a plane. He decides to postpone the flight and later learns that the plane crashed with no survivors.
A woman in her sixties hears a disembodied voice telling her that her aging husband is hurt. She begins to pray. A few hours later she discovers that her husband was having a heart attack at that precise moment, and only survived because a Good Samaritan rushed to his aid as if in answer to her prayers.
A young woman has a vivid dream in which she visits her far away boyfriend in an unknown hotel. The next day her boyfriend calls, saying he saw her as an apparition the previous evening. At her request, he describes the hotel room and it exactly matches her dream.
These are all true stories, and I’m sure you’ve heard many more. It is possible to receive information through non-ordinary channels, and to influence events with your thoughts and energy. Psychic powers are real. Magick can really change your life. Whether you are interested in experiencing clairvoyance, telepathy, the out-of-body experience, magical influence, or transcendental communication with higher consciousness, this book provides clear and easy-to-follow instructions for successfully and quickly achieving results.
I have worked long and hard, sometimes secretly to avoid the derision of my fellow magicians, exploring myself, exploring consciousness, and applying the small palette of tools I managed to find in books and from teachers. Through all of this study and practice, over the span of almost twenty years, I have slowly pieced together a very wide array of psychic and magical tools. I’ve now taught hundreds of people at workshops, and their problems and questions have helped me further refine my approaches. This book is the practical fruit of all that work. Many people have used these techniques and their questions, troubles and triumphs have helped to perfect these step-by-step tools. This is the book that the twelve-year-old Jason was looking for so many years ago.
In my previous books, The New Hermetics and Sexual Sorcery I provided a number of tools that cover a few of the same subjects in this book. I have made every effort to not merely repeat myself at any point in this current work. Where something is similar or identical to something from The New Hermetics, I have tried to make reference to it, and hopefully offered another approach, or at least refined the technique. All these books ultimately have very different purposes. The New Hermetics is primarily focused on the experience of illumination and personal transformation, on guiding consciousness step-by-step along a clear path to connection with the cosmic mind and each individual’s life purpose. This serpentine path takes you into the realms of practical magick, but only as stepping-stones to the development of your consciousness, on the evolutionary path to illumination and adepthood. The Book of Magick Power is simply intended to give you a set of tools for exploring the practical side of magick and psychic phenomena. In many ways, the techniques in this book can be seen as supplemental New Hermetics tools, and will hopefully be of great assistance to any adepts interested in exploring beyond the New Hermetics techniques. This book is intended to be useable for both beginners and advanced consciousness engineers. It contains a number of valuable new models. If you have not read and begun exploring the techniques of The New Hermetics and my other book 21st Century Mage, I highly recommend that you do so. You will find them immensely useful in your exploration of your cosmic abilities. However, reading these other books is not absolutely necessary to benefit greatly from this present one.
Much of the material that you are about to read is about expanding psychic abilities. I tend to approach psychic phenomena and the paranormal primarily from a magical background, largely because I have been an initiate of the secret Western Mystery Tradition for many years. There will be some emphas
is in this direction throughout this book, but you do not have to be from a magical background in order to get a lot of value from this book. I hope that it will be useful to all people who are interested in exploring the latent powers of the mind. I also do not make any distinction between any of the various philosophical branches of magick in this work. This is a book for everybody. Esoteric Theology will not play a significant role in these pages. Whether you are a Witch, Wiccan, Hermetic Magician, Thelemite, Pagan, Druid, Shaman, Toltec, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Chaote, Voodoo witchdoctor or just a regular old person I think you will find something useful in these pages.
In The New Hermetics, I basically dispensed with any outer ritual work, focusing purely on consciousness development through a series of mental exercises or meditations. However, in the present volume, you will find that there are ritual elements in some of the techniques. I have done this because it is often easier to get into the right mood for practical work when we have created an outer atmosphere that is conducive. But if doing ritual is not something that interests you, I have where possible provided alternative, meditative approaches. You can also adapt any ritual elements into meditations using your own creativity. Where I have given specific ritual elements and ritual words you can always feel free to change these to suit your personal needs, adding corresponding ideas from your own spiritual tradition to really make these practices your own. There is no one correct way to do anything. Try them my way first, but please feel free to adjust these practices in whatever way suits your needs.
